Under the general direction of the Facility Manager, the Assistant Facility Manager is responsible and accountable for the implementation of daily work duties and responsibilities of the full-time, part-time and casual staff under their direction; relating to the maintenance, security, and physical operation of the Facility and the support services to the members, lessees, guests, and/or spectators. The Assistant Facility Manager supports the short and long term facility planning activities and acts as the Facility Manager’s designate in their absence.

Duties include administering space reservations including room bookings, activity space for all programs, events, and rentals; supervising the work of full-time, part-time and casual staff; identifying facility and/or equipment issues, problems, and solutions; identifying security issues and needs of the facility, monitoring facility security and resolving security issues; ensuring caretaking requirements are met; assisting in the acquisition of equipment and coordinating installation and maintenance, the managing of equipment maintenance contracts; administering and allocating keys and assisting in any other duties or projects as assigned which contribute to the effective operation and/or improvement of the facility of services. The Assistant Facility Manager will meet regularly with the scheduling group and assist in coordinating and overseeing facility rentals.

The responsibilities for this position are fulfilled primarily through collaboration and teamwork with other managers and support staff. The success of the service area will rest on the Assistant Manager’s ability to manage in a way to optimize and facilitate teamwork and respond to customers in a pro-active manner.

Qualifications

: Minimum:
Education:
University degree, preferably a Bachelors of Physical and Health Education, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience:
Minimum of 3 years of related sport facility management and leadership experience in a comparable facility conducting facility administration and directing maintenance duties. Must have experience performing; preventative maintenance, repair, renovation projects, experience in budget management. Demonstrated experience with Health and Safety Issues, Emergency Planning and Emergency Response. Must have experience managing and supervising staff.

Skills:
Mechanical aptitude necessary, manual ability in simple repairs, and basic materials management and maintenance. Must have excellent interpersonal, communication, customer service, planning, scheduling and supervisory skills. Excellent negotiation and diplomacy skills, proven ability to collaborate and participate effectively within a team. Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word and Excel). Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Knowledge of related trades (Electrical, Plumbing, Locksmith, and Carpentry) is necessary. A working knowledge of facilities and human resource policies and procedures and their application is an asset. Knowledge of employment standards, health & safety and sound management practices. Must have good judgment to analyze situations quickly, effectively and confidentially.

Other:
Must have a high degree of initiative and self-motivation and the ability to prioritize work independently according to demands. Labour relations experience is an asset. Must have the ability to exercise tact and discretion and to maintain a positive attitude while under pressure. Must be available to work evenings and weekends with flexibility in the hours worked based on event operations.

Pay Scale Group and Hiring Rate: USW Pay Band 11 — $62,204 with an annual step progression to a maximum of $79,547. Pay scale and job class assignment is subject to determination pursuant to the Job Evaluation/Pay Equity Maintenance Protocol.
Part Time Percentage of FTE: 80
Pro-rated Pay Scale Group and Hiring Rate: $49,763.20 – $63,637.60
