Position Summary

The Faculty of Social Work invites applications for a tenure track Assistant Professor at the University of Regina Saskatoon campus, to start July 1, 2015. This new position will primarily be responsible for the practicum component of undergraduate Social Work education in Saskatoon and surrounding communities (including Northern and Rural areas)

The successful candidate will find the Faculty of Social Work to be a dynamic, research intensive and rewarding environment in which to teach and conduct research. Teaching in the undergraduate program in Saskatoon provides opportunities to engage with students through both face to face and distance learning/blended environments with a culturally and geographically diverse student body. The Faculty also provides and supports opportunities to conduct innovative research in partnership with community groups throughout Saskatchewan, Canada and internationally.

The Faculty is seeking applicants with a broad interest and background in teaching, research and scholarship, although the primary duties of the successful candidate will include: involvement in field education development; co-ordination, administration and monitoring of student learning in practicum settings; direct facilitation of student learning; providing mentorship to Field Liaisons and the Saskatoon Placement Co-ordinator; consultation with agency-based Field Instructors. The successful candidate will work in close co-operation with the Faculty of Social Work Field Education Advisory Committee members, the Field Education Co-ordinator at the Regina campus, administrative staff, and other Faculty colleagues at the Saskatoon campus.

Requirements

A PhD in Social Work (or equivalent) is required; applicants who are ABD (Social Work) will be considered. An MSW, with two years post MSW social work experience may be considered when accompanied by a PhD in a related field. An established positive teaching record appropriate to level of education and experience is necessary. A proven ability to work collaboratively with community organizations and/or direct experience with Aboriginal community engagement is necessary. The salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications, and based on the collective agreement between the University of Regina and the University of Regina Faculty Association. Applicants must be eligible for Registered Social Work status in Saskatchewan.
