Position Summary

The University of Regina’s External Relations Department is committed to the new University Strategic Plan and supporting the key priority areas outlined in the University’s Strategic Plan: Student Success, Research Impact and Commitment to our Communities as well as the overarching areas of emphasis of Indigenization and Sustainability. The Development unit of External Relations is currently seeking an outstanding relationship builder to assume a full-time, twelve-month term role as a Development Officer with a focus on securing major gifts and sponsorships for the University’s fundraising priorities as outlined in the institutional Case for Support.

Reporting to senior management within the Development Unit and working closely with a team of development professionals, the successful applicant will:

  • Present opportunities to donors and prospective donors that align their philanthropic objectives with the University’s priorities for support;
  • Present opportunities to prospective corporate sponsors that align community investment goals with those of University key branded events;
  • Oversee, be accountable for, possess in-depth experience and demonstrated fundraising success with a major gift portfolio (gifts > $25,000);
  • Attend visits to donors and prospective donors with University Team members including Deans, Associate Deans and Directors;
  • Develop relationships and work in consort with internal stakeholders including subject matter experts, to learn and understand cogent and compelling arguments for support.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Work with University faculty and staff members to help identify prospects with strong links to the University and capacity to support the institution;
  • Manage a major gift portfolio of prospects and donors to secure and continue donor support;
  • Develop and implement strategies to ensure long term relationships with donors;
  • Match the philanthropic objectives of donors and the institutional priorities;
  • Ensure all project and donor information collected is captured and used appropriately in the best interests of the donor and the institution;
  • Adhere to the policies, processes and procedures established by the University and the External Relations Department specifically regarding gift acceptance, naming and recognition.

Requirements

  • An undergraduate degree or Certified Fund Raising Executive Designation (CFRE), with 3 – 5 years of direct fundraising experience;
  • Equivalent amount of education and major gift experience may also be considered;
  • Commitment to the University’s Strategic Plan;
  • Must be able to build outstanding relationships with donors including alumni and present a professional, passionate and inspiring perspectives of the University of Regina;
  • Understanding of fundraising methodology and/or relationship management and client cycles;
  • Demonstrated success with a major gift portfolio;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Mush have proposal writing skill/experience;
  • Direct experience working in complex database such as: Banner, Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint;
  • Be creative, resourceful, innovative and exhibit the ability to exercise leadership and to function in a team-oriented environment;
  • Demonstrate flexibility and the ability to negotiate realistic time frames for the completion of tasks and projects;
  • Recognize problems quickly and effectively, and facilitate solutions;
  • Work to deadlines under pressure and take initiative;
  • Previous experience working with volunteers is desirable;
  • Be able to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, and travel within and outside the province and country when required.
