Deals with University staff at all levels, union and government officials, and outside legal counsel. Manages concurrent projects and oversees day-to-day support staff activities. Provides training and information to support staff, including managers.
Essential Qualifications Bachelors degree focusing on labour relations or a related area of study, or relevant work experience
Minimum of three years human resources or program administration experience, preferably in a unionized environment
Experience working in a diverse and decentralized organization, ideally in the public sector
Experience developing and facilitating training sessions
Experience coordinating and managing support staff
Thorough knowledge of the three collective agreements with expert knowledge of the APTPUO and CUPE 2626 collective agreements
Knowledge of the university academic environment, to develop recruitment and communication strategies, enabling the University of Ottawa to become leader in hiring faculty
In-depth knowledge of communication tools and methods, to develop effective recruitment strategies
Thorough knowledge of academic labour relations and contract administration
Computer literacy, including working knowledge of Banner, Extender and part-time academic positions management systems
Familiarity with the grievance and negotiations processes
Basic knowledge of web posting software
Working knowledge of databases
Sound judgment and decision-making skills, to solve non-routine problems requiring a review of many factors, including employee or University needs
Tact, diplomacy and discretion
Highly developed consultation abilities
Spreadsheet use proficiency
Bilingualism English and French (spoken and written)

Note Temporary assignment or contract of 18 months, with possibility of renewal. Eligibility to benefits will be determined upon hiring. This position is excluded from all union accreditation units.
