Reporting to the Dean of Science, the Sessional Lecturer provides instruction to undergraduate students in CHEM 3250U.

Responsibilities/Accountabilities:

The duties consist of preparing and delivering lectures, developing evaluation material (assignments, quizzes, exams, etc.), consultation with students, marking, and include supervision of teaching assistant(s). The successful candidate will be expected to utilize a technology-enhanced learning approach to deliver course material and includes lecturing with a tablet laptop and the setup and use of a Blackboard course website. The Sessional Lecturer will be available for consultation with students during and following completion of the course session.

This position falls within the bargaining unit represented by the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) and will be subject to the terms and conditions of the collective agreement between the University and PSAC. The collective agreement may be found on the Human Resources section of our website. Candidates will be required to certify that they are currently legally eligible to work in Canada for the duration of the contract.

Qualifications:

Preferred candidates will have a demonstrated excellence in teaching undergraduate organic chemistry courses, and a minimum of a Master’s degree in the field of medicinal chemistry. Preference will be given to those with a Ph. D. degree, and/or specialist qualifications in the related area.

Required Skills

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to teach courses using laptops (or tablets).
  • Strong chemistry background in the field of organic chemistry
  • Strong computer skills, including basics (Windows environment), office software (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook, etc)

Education:

  • Graduate degree (MSc or PhD) in Chemistry
  • Certificates of previous teaching are an advantage

Required Experience

  • Teaching experience related to the course subject matter
  • Use of technology: Blackboard, online management of courses (use of laptops in the classroom is an asset)

Priority will be given to an Internal Applicant who has taught any course for the University in three (3) different sessions in the past thirty-six (36) months, provided they meet the requirements for the position as outlined in the job posting.
