Assists the Environmental Services Manager, and the Environmental Advisor with the administration of Environmental Services for the University. Assists in the coordination, maintenance and updates of different aspects of the existing environmental programs.

Organizational Status

Reports to Manager, Environmental Services. Performs responsibilities under direct supervision Works closely with the Environmental Advisor.

Work Performed

– Develops and updates environmental audit check lists
– Updates existing environmental procedures
– Assist in developing training material by creating handouts and/or powerpoint presentations from existing training material, contents and references, and assist in the delivery of training materials
– Schedule site visits
– Utilize pre-established checklists during site visits to verify compliance with checklist requirements
– Utilize pre-established checklists during lab visits to verify green lab practices
– Contact Environmental Service suppliers to find out service costs.
– Update environmental web page contents
– Scheduling environmental testing and analysis performed by professionals
– Review monitoring results against relevant standards and compile related reports
– Carries out additional duties as necessary.

Supervision Received

Performs responsibilities under the direct supervision of Manager, Environmental Services. Receives directions from the Environmental Programs Advisor.

Consequence of Error/Judgement

Failure to act in a professional, tactful manner would have an adverse effect on the image of the department. Misinterpretation of UBC policies and procedures as well as departmental policies would have a serious impact on staff/students.

Qualifications

High School graduation and 1 year post-secondary education. 2 years of related experience or the equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience in Environmental Engineering or Environmental Sciences. Ability to exercise initiative and judgement and to work independently. Well-developed oral and written communication skills, and good computer skills are essential.
