Strategic Sourcing Manager
Location: Vancouver, BC (1-year contract; possible extension) Ability to work from home twice a week

Position Overview:
The Strategic Sourcing Manager (SSM) for Mission Critical Environments (MCE) is a critical and senior role within the Field Services Procurement team. The SSM will support the VP of MCE and has enterprise accountability for developing, prioritizing and successfully negotiating holistic sourcing strategies and agreements within the MCE spend category, including Electrical, Mechanical, Structural and Life Safety vendors. The successful candidate will optimize cost and flexibility, drive ongoing performance from the supply-base, and maximize overall value for our client throughout the category life cycle.

The SSM is accountable for a portfolio of assigned vendors with a primary expectation to:

  • Manage key strategic sourcing events in the spend category of MCE (both internally to business unit leaders and externally to service suppliers)
  • Negotiate, draft, administer and manage commercial contracts associated with MCE categories
  • Deliver on vendor negotiations driving value for money
  • Develop and execute strategic sourcing strategies
  • Prepare and execute competitive bidding (RFX) events
  • Perform spend category intelligence and analytics
  • Lead contract negotiation, drafting and administration
  • Coordinate efforts between internal stakeholders and the vendor account teams to meet business objectives
  • Identify and deliver a strategic approach to achieving annual Total Value of Ownership (TVO) targets, track and manage results, take remedial actions, present updates, analysis and recommendations to senior management
  • Perform ongoing vendor performance monitoring and evaluation

Required Knowledge:

  • Market knowledge of Electrical, Mechanical, Structural & Life Safety services procurement practices and processes
  • Experience executing against a category-specific E2E Source-to-Pay Strategy
  • Superior ability to influence and build relationships (both internally and externally)
  • Solid understanding of strategic sourcing concepts and best practices
  • Understanding of contract law including completion of related courses

  • Ability to engage effectively with all levels of management in vendor organizations to lead the management of client relationships with key strategic level vendors
  • Proven ability to analyze complex, often ambiguous, data and produce comprehensive recommendations and proposals
  • Competency with Microsoft office suite of tools, e-contract management and competitive bidding tools an asset. Specifically, experience with ARIBA and SAP Contract Life Cycle Management (CLM) and e-sourcing tools an asset.

Required Professional Designation/Certification:

  • Bachelor’s degree and 5+ years of equivalent experience in sourcing/procurement/vendor management
  • Bachelor degree in Business/Commerce, MBA, LLB, Engineering, or Supply Chain management would be an asset (equivalencies in experience considered)
  • Professional designation in Supply Chain Management or equivalent would be an asset (SCMP / CPP, ISM)
  • Professional designations in project management (PMI), negotiations, finance, business analytics, consulting, professional negotiations, Paralegal or an LLB would be an asset
  • Formal training and working level experience with Procurement Procure-to-Pay systems/processes/policies/solutions

Required Experience:

  • Strategic Sourcing training and experience
  • Negotiations and Contracting training and experience
  • Proven experience structuring deals and leading major end-to-end sourcing events
  • Supplier development/management/monitoring experience
  • Risk management experience
  • 5+ years of experience in a related role (e.g. vendor manager, vendor relationship manager, strategic sourcing and supply chain professional, supply chain management professional, strategic business relationship management, and/or consulting)
  • Extensive experience structuring, writing, and editing legal contracts with large complex organizations
  • Experience in management of long-term vendor relationships including providing feedback on performance metrics and deliverables over time is required
  • Experience in competitive bidding processes including leading RFX processes end to end in highly organized, collaborative and successful fashion.
  • 5+ years proven experience structuring deals and leading product or service contract negotiations
  • 5+ years managing executive-level business relationships and leading collaborative cross functional teams

Must Have Skills:
Procurement Experience, Contract drafting, RFP preparation, vendor management
Excellent communications skills – professional, clear, concise, can draft contract language and executive summaries, can present to senior leadership
Data analysis skills – be able to model complex RFP outcomes to determine best approach

Nice to Have Skills:
Procurement or Field Experience in Telecom or Power & Space (HVAC, Gensets, Fire Life Safety)
Legal experience
Engineering experience
