Job Title: Build Network Designer X3

Location: Edmonton

Duration: 9 Months

Extension: (Potential of extension or conversion to FTE)

Key Objectives/Deliverables :

  • Development and implementation of the methods and processes required for Pole Line Design utility permit submissions and reviews.
  • Review pole line design submissions that will be submitted to power utility companies to ensure that load and strand tensioning is accurate and within acceptable specifications.
  • Interface with legislative and regulatory bodies, power companies, etc. to create regulations, agreements and processes.
  • Work closely with Access Network Planning and Engineering Design groups, Business Sales and Marketing, Project Management, Regulatory, Legal, Real Estate and Safety with respect to Pole Line Design issues in the outside plant throughout Alberta and B.C
  • Work with Client Mobility team on the deployment of Pole top Wireless, Macro cells, Micro cells and Wi-Fi systems.
  • Work with different Power Utilities within BC and AB with regards to Joint Use Construction in aerial and underground plants.

Required Knowledge :
Hands on real time experience working in all systems and tools as they relate to OPE Engineering, these skills include but are not limited to the following:

  • Functional PC skills with MS Office and other PC software applications.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience of QuickPole pole line design software or any other pole line design simulation software.
  • Demonstrated extensive knowledge and experience on non-linear pole analysis.
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills with an ability to cultivate sound working relationships with others throughout the company and externally.
  • Strong pole line design engineering fundamentals
  • Ability to perform complex mathematical calculations with respect to load and strand tensioning for Pole Line Design for telecommunications aerial infrastructure on joint use poles.
  • Knowledge of the OP engineering, construction, splicing, and I&R disciplines and associated systems.
  • Knowledge of the tools and materials used in the Client outside plant network.
  • Knowledge of all applicable statutes, regulations, bylaws, guidelines and rules of federal, provincial and municipal authorities, Canadian Electrical Codes, Canada Labour Code, Canada Occupational Safety and Health Regulations, etc.
  • Knowledge of Grounding and Bonding of Electrical Systems and Telecommunications Systems

  • Good Technical writing skills to develop standards documentation
  • Experience negotiating with external vendors.
  • Demonstrated experience creating a culture of engagement amongst team members
  • Demonstrated ability to work as a contributing member of a high performing team
  • Knowledge of IT Systems; SAP, Microsoft Office Applications, SpatialNet, etc. preferred (with aptitude to learn / conceptualize the functionality of new systems being introduced).

Required Professional Designation/Certification:

  • Professional Engineer Designation, with minimum 7 years working history
  • Ability to register as a Professional Engineer in both BC and AB.

Must Have Skills:

Project details : Position required to support Fibre build. Successful candidate would be responsible for working with Engineering partners to verify/validate Aerial permits prior to the permit submissions
