British Columbia Rapid Transit Company Ltd. (BCRTC) maintains and operates two of Metro Vancouver’s three SkyTrain lines on behalf of TransLink, the regional transportation authority. Launched in 1986, SkyTrain is the first and one of the longest, fully-automated, driverless, rapid transit systems in the world. It boasts an average on-time service performance rating of 95 per cent and moves on average 250,000 passengers per weekday.

Responsibilities

RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Support Equipment Tradesperson is responsible for the scheduled inspection, maintenance and repair of BCRTC’s support equipment such as diesel/gas/powered equipment, tools, shop equipment, overhead cranes, and road/rail vehicles. Fabricates special equipment as required.

Qualifications

Education:
High school graduation or equivalent. Red Seal and/or Interprovincial Certification as Heavy Duty Mechanic. Must have served an apprenticeship as a Heavy Duty Mechanic or equivelant.

Experience:
Minimum of five (5) years recent experience as a Journeyman Heavy Duty Mechanic.
Demonstrated experience in the maintenance, repair and overhaul of heavy duty equipment.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a maintenance team.
Valid BC class 5 driver’s license

Other Information

Recruitment Process: An applicant will be required to demonstrate their suitability for this position by meeting the minimum level of qualifications and experience in order to be invited into the selection process. A standard interview format will be used including general, scenario and behavioural descriptive interview questions.

Work Schedule

40 hours per week.
