This is skilled mechanical work at the journeyman level in the maintenance and repair of various types of equipment. This position performs general mechanical overhauls and maintenance work with vans, mini pickups, light trucks, dump trucks and other related City vehicles. Additionally, this position repairs both gas and diesel engines, troubleshoots and repairs hydraulic, electrical and brake systems and assists other staff on the overhaul, service or repair of mobile and stationary equipment. This position also performs related work as required.

Qualifications include: up to high school graduation is needed along with completion of a recognized apprenticeship in the automotive trade, considerable general experience applicable to the work or an equivalent combination of training and experience. An ability to work independently is needed along with considerable knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions related to the trade. Some knowledge of hydraulics and electrical repairs is needed along with basic computer diagnostics and computer skills related to on-board systems for the vehicles serviced. A valid Trades Qualification (TQ) ticket in Commercial Transport or Heavy Duty Mechanics is required along with a BC Driver’s License (Class 3 preferred) with air endorsement. A Commercial Vehicle Inspector’s ticket is an asset.

Status: Regular Full Time

Schedule: 80 hours bi-weekly, 2:00pm to 10:30pm – Monday to Friday
