Job overview:
Reporting to the Manager, Inbound Operations, there is a full time opportunity in our Distribution Centre for a Wave Planner.

The Wave Planner develops plans for merchandise shipments based on Store inventory needs and monitors inventory flow and makes adjustments internally to expedite flow of merchandise to Stores. This position also support the Distribution Centre operations and management through the maintenance of the labour management program.

The following are the key responsibilities for this role:

  • Develop a daily wave order picking plan that meets the Store loading schedule and maximizes use of resources across all picking zones and shifts.
  • Prepare and drop daily waves.
  • Create group waves as required to meet the needs of operations and the business.
  • Change pick slot locations for merchandise to balance volume within and across the picking zones to ensure the proper volume of product are in the appropriate slot.
  • Work with Shipping Manager on developing and adjusting final Store delivery schedule.
  • Update and maintain Store delivery schedule utilizing existing scheduler tool.
  • Ensure that workload and labour requirements are optimized for all shifts by managing Store demand (SOQ) evenly through the week.
  • Manage SOQ residual to ensure store demand is fulfilled in required week
  • Partner with receiving to ensure inbound flow of inventory receipts is managed as efficiently as possible.
  • Follow up with stakeholders on any deficient item information that ultimately affects wave output.
  • Create and analyze daily reports showing effective operations of the building such as current capacity, KPI’s (i.e., cube utilization, on time shipping) CPH’s, material flow status, labour requirements.
  • Communicate with Regional Partners and Stores regarding cancellations and additional deliveries.
  • Provide subject matter expertise in the areas of reporting, data analysis and data models.
  • Facilitate communication with business stakeholders (Item Planning, Store Operations and Supply Chain) with any operational issues that could affect flow or store deliveries and propose solutions that will meet the needs of the business.
  • Supports the business through ad-hoc queries, and maintains reports from a variety of resources as specific to department or organizational needs.
  • May perform other related duties and special assignments as required.


To be considered for this position, candidates must have the following qualifications:

  • Knowledge of Warehouse Management Systems
  • Ability to optimize shipping schedule to align with pick schedules
  • Excellent computer skills in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, Access)
  • Knowledge of AS400 and Red Prairie system an asset
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to work independently.

  • Must be willing to work flexible hours in support of business needs (days or afternoons)
  • Must have high initiative, integrity and dependability to function effectively as a team player
  • Good attention to detail and accuracy
  • Good organizational skills
