The Township of Langley is currently recruiting for a temporary full-time (from approx. September 14, 2015 to approx. September 14, 2016) Soil By-Law Officer to join our team of professionals in the Engineering Division, Public Works Engineering Services Department.
Summary of Duties
Reporting to the Manager of Public Works Engineering Services, you will be responsible in this unionized position for processing soil deposit and removal applications, producing neighbourhood maps and letter mail-outs, collecting and summarizing responses, recommending improvements to procedures, organizing site inspections and meetings for technical staff, and conducting inspections to ensure that properties conform to the by-law and approved soil permits as well as investigating complaints. You will also compose correspondence, provide data for council reports, and maintain and up-date forms, permits, reports and records.
Your education will include completion of grade 12 schooling related technical courses and sound related experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience. You will have sound knowledge of computer applications as they relate to the work performed, business English, spelling, punctuation and arithmetic and of modern office methods, practices and procedures, and common office appliances. Ability to investigate complaints, conduct inspections and to enforce the by-law, rules and regulations with firmness, tact, impartiality and sound judgement as well as an ability to deal courteously and effectively with the public, officials and staff is necessary.

Required Licenses, Certificates, and Registrations
A valid BC Class 5 (full-privilege) driver’s license or equivalent driver’s license for where you reside is required. A current Driver’s Abstract that has been obtained within 6 months of the closing date below must be uploaded with your application in order to be considered for this opportunity and in order for your application to be complete. To obtain a copy of your Driver’s Abstract, please contact ICBC directly or the driving authority where you reside.

Compensation & Benefits Overview
The rate of pay for this CUPE position is $27.75 – $32.63 per hour (2015 rates), plus 12.4% in lieu of benefits. The hours of work are Monday to Friday, 8:00am – 4:30pm.
