The Position

The Director of Finance is accountable to provide leadership and direction for the Finance Department of the Town of Torbay. The Director is responsible for the administrative management of all financial activities; preparation and management of the Town’s operating and capital budgets; preparation of financial reports and audit controls; budget forecasting; coordination, administration and oversight of computer programs and systems; and supervision of department staff.

As a member of the Senior Management Team, the Director contributes to the effective management of the Town, assisting with the development of longer-term policy and management planning to address Council’s strategic priorities. The Director provides administrative support to the Finance Committee of Council, including the provision of expert advice and consultation on issues that arise.

This is a maternity leave replacement position. Anticipated term of employment is May 2018 –June 2019.

Qualifications

The candidate should hold a post-secondary degree in Business from a recognized educational institution with a primary focus on accounting and finance. An individual who has obtained a Chartered Professional Accountant designation with some financial leadership experience would be an ideal candidate. Experience in managing significant budgets, maintaining strategic relationships with stakeholders and leading a committed team through all aspects of business planning, analysis and reporting is required.
