This is a contract opportunity lasting for approximately 9 months.

Job Responsibilities:

Under the Direction of the Supervisor of Surveys and Engineering Records, duties will include:

  • Research of all documentary evidence for the preparation of drawings including; Land Registry Office records, Town and other surveyor’s notes and records, and other appropriate repositories.
  • Land Registry Office research using Teranet’s Teraview software.
  • Maintain Town of Oakville property record index of municipal ownership and interests in land.
  • Prepare engineering drawings and sketches.
  • Create and assign and/or review and approve municipal addresses and street names.
  • Distribution of municipal address updates to various agencies and the public.
  • Maintain Town of Oakville’s Geographic Information system (GIS) coverages including; municipal addresses, street names, road segment, registered plan, traffic intersections, corporate annotations, horizontal and vertical control.
  • Create and maintain all Amanda property files and geo-reference data between Amanda and GIS.
  • Drafting engineering drawings using Autodesk Land Desktop software.
  • Maintain various infrastructure datasets such as; storm sewer, street directory, sidewalks, registered plan using AutoCAD / GIS software.
  • Printing and filing of records.
  • Respond to telephone and counter inquiries.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications/Skills:

  • Diploma in Survey, Civil or Construction Engineering Technology from an accredited college.
  • Knowledge and experience with Provincial Land Registry Office records, Land Titles Act, Registry Act, Surveys Act, Surveyors Act and associated plans, Association of Ontario Land Surveyors standards for surveys, descriptions, township lot fabric and methods of land division.
  • Should have at least three (3) years of related experience.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with registration through the Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists (O.A.C.E.T.T.) at the Certified Engineering Technologist (C.E.T.) level.
  • Must have proficient computer skills specifically in drafting, surveying, civil engineering, word processing programs.
  • Experience with ArcGIS software; ArcView, Arcinfo and ArcEditor or A GIS Specialist Certificate with ArcGIS would be considered an asset.
  • Candidates should also be familiar with Polaris Mapping and other cadastral related computerized systems.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, verbal, written and interpersonal skills are essential as well as the ability to deal effectively with the public.
  • The successful candidate will be required to supply their own personal vehicle for performing job duties and corporate business.
