The Information & Technology Services Unit requires a Network Support Specialist, who will report to the Manager, Client & Network Services. This position will play a key role in the management of the delivery of network services including configuration management, computer operations and network technology support for Toronto Community Housing’s technology environment.
Major responsibilities:
- Provides second level, on-site and remote support of LAN/WAN servers, network devices, and workstations for users within the Company, including installing and configuring computer hardware, software and peripheral equipment
- Installs and packages software for centralized server-based distribution to workstations
- Assists the Manager with the development of project plans, determining requirements, researching, evaluating and recommending solutions to support the technology environment
- Provides work direction for project team members with respect to specific projects or tasks and monitors progress and results
- Assists with developing feasibility studies and cost/benefit analysis
- Responds to level 3 service desk requests and provides problem diagnosis, tracking, resolution and escalation
- Ensures the performance of the Company’s physical data and communications network through the monitoring of performance indicators and troubleshooting connectivity problems
- Performs back up and recovery procedures to ensure the availability and integrity of the network environment
- Designs and implements server consolidation and disaster recovery processes
- Develops, maintains and tests disaster recovery plans to ensure business continuity
- Develops, implements, and maintains security policies and procedures
- Monitors the development and production environments, including network, servers, and logs, and initiates corrective actions
- Analyzes and implements new operating system revisions/service packs to ensure reliability of the LAN/WAN environment
- Develops deployment and operational support procedures and related documentation
- Develops QA and integration testing on new applications and revisions to ensure optimal network performance
- Provides technical support of development, testing, and training environments
- Advises users of the optimum use and capabilities of their systems/software
- Analyzes patterns and trends in problems encountered by users to identify and address common user issues
- Provides after-hours coverage of critical business systems on a rotating schedule with other members of the section, as agreed and scheduled with the Manager
