The CAD/Design Technician will be a member of the engineering design team, tasked with the creation of AutoCAD Drawings in AutoCAD Civil 3D for various water resources and geotechnical engineering, slope stabilization and stream restoration projects. The job will require working closely with project managers, engineers, construction personnel and consultants, including visiting various stream and valley sites. One of the key functions of the technician will be to help in the development of design standards to improve the efficiency of the design process.

KNOWLEDGE:

  • Completion of a diploma or degree program related to CAD, drafting or Civil Engineering;
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience working with AutoCAD Civil 3D on land development, slope stabilization and/or stream restoration projects;
  • Understanding of technical standards, regulations and procedures related to water resources and geotechnical engineering and/or stream restoration;
  • Some GIS experience is an asset, but not required;
  • Experience with data conversion between CAD/GIS systems is preferred;
  • Strong analytical, communication and organization skills;
  • Willingness to work outdoors, attend site visits as required ;
  • Must be able to swim and participate in Water Safety Training
  • Valid Ontario Driver’s License

SUMMARY OF MAJOR TASKS:

The following tasks will be performed under general supervision:

  • Provide CAD support for various water resources and geotechnical engineering projects;
  • Co-ordinate the development and implementation of Civil 3D styles/standards and standard details;
  • Work closely with Surveying/GIS/Engineering staff and participate on various project teams;
  • Assist in the preparation of technical reports, drawings, etc.
  • Perform site visits and obtain field data as required.
  • Maintain state of the art knowledge of technical developments related to major tasks. (e.g. CAD, GIS, Regulatory developments, etc.);
  • Develop and maintain effective client relations, with internal and external staff, the general public, consultants, etc.
  • Assist in the organization and maintenance of TRCA’s design drawings database;
  • Perform additional assignments and responsibilities as assumed or requested.
