Program Manager, Youth Leadership Program (YLP)

Location

Tim Horton Children’s Camp (THCC) is located on 245 acres of oceanfront property on the Northumberland Strait. The quaint village of Tatamagouche is located 45 minutes north of Truro, and a scenic 1.5-hour drive from Halifax. The sandy beaches and warm waters of the strait are ideal for outdoor adventures.

Does this sound like you?

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma, or equivalent experience
  • Experience as a Program Supervisor in a residential camp setting – considered a strong asset
  • Experience working with a diverse population of youth ages 12-17 including supporting positive youth development, and supporting mental health considerations
  • Experience participating in, planning, and executing multi-day wilderness experiences
  • Demonstrated ability to use strong judgement and make decisions in a fast paced environment
  • Strong facilitation, public speaking, and hospitality skills
  • Demonstrated experience in training, developing, coaching, and mentoring a team
  • Experience with risk assessments and crisis management
  • Ability to spend extended periods of time at camp, participate in the on call rotation and to work a 10/2 schedule
  • Bilingual in French and English
  • Valid driver’s license and acceptable drivers abstract
  • Acceptable Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Search
  • Certifications (or the ability to obtain certifications) in the areas of Wilderness First Aid, Challenge Course Management, Lifeguarding and other outdoor skills would be considered assets

What would you be doing?

  • Implementing the Youth Leadership Program curriculum and ensuring consistent delivery of Program as per YLP Framework
  • Being a consistent frontline presence for the Youth leadership Program, role modelling strong facilitation including setting expectations, hosting meals, making announcements, and delivering workshops
  • Implementing impact measurement tools to track the impact of the YLP program
  • Complete risk assessments and implement related Foundation health and safety standards
  • Manage crisis situations as per the Foundation Risk Management Standards and Emergency Response Plans
  • Investigate concerns or incidents in the area of camper and staff wellness in a timely manner (including physical, mental, and emotional health and safety), including communicating with families as needed
  • Establish wilderness trip routes (hiking and/or canoeing) that are appropriately challenging, and align with the YLP trip guidelines
  • Perform regular quality control evaluations for Facilitators, Coordinators, and Counsellors
  • Support the Talent Acquisition Team in identifying and acquiring high performing professionals who are aligned with the mission and values of the Foundation
  • Deliver training to seasonal camp teams on the THCF standards, culture, program development, and outcome measurement process
  • Coach, develop, evaluate and deliver feedback to staff on their performance
  • Develop, manage, and adhere to respective department budget
  • Managing the Camp Nurses and Camper Support Specialist to support campers experiencing physical or mental health concerns, or behavioural challenges
  • Liaise with the CLP Program Manager on a regular basis and support the CLP Program in non-peak YLP time periods, as per the cross functional program support guidelines
