Title of manager this position reports to: Shop Manager

Positions reporting to this role: N/A

Work Rotation (if applicable): 5 days on, 2 days off

Work Days / Hours: Thursday to Monday 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. with ½ hour unpaid lunch

Purpose of Role: Maintaining Tiger’s fleet of equipment as well as completing proper paperwork required for the position. The incumbent will hold the lead hand role on the weekend.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide leadership, mentoring and training to mechanics.
  • Assist mechanics with troubleshooting.
  • Generate work orders on the weekend shifts.
  • Perform maintenance and repair of heavy trucks and trailers.
  • Perform preventative and predictive maintenance.
  • Diagnose cause of any malfunction and perform repairs to manufacturer’s specifications.
  • Maintain a clean and tidy personal work area and assist with general workshop cleaning duties.
  • Maintain a daily record of all work tasks and materials.
  • Support and encourage continuous improvement in work practices.
  • Some out of hours work may be required on a call out basis.
  • Perform related work as required.
  • Completing daily job hazard assessments.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS, WORK EXPERIENCE, SKILLS

  • Journeyman Heavy Duty Mechanic with CVIP ticket.
  • Minimum 5 years experience with at least 2 years in a supervisory capacity within a maintenance shop environment.
  • A Valid Alberta Class 1 Driver’s license would be considered an asset
  • Experience with Cummins engines, hydraulic system, Super B, and Managers plus computer program would be considered an asset.
  • Experience and considerable knowledge of the methods, materials and equipment used in the maintenance and repair of various types of heavy equipment and other power driven equipment and tools.
  • Working knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade.
  • Skilled in the operation of a variety of tools and equipment used in the repair of trucks and heavy equipment
  • Capable of preparing and maintaining accurate records and reports.
  • Ability to analyze and repair mechanical failures.
  • Has a collaborative communication style at all levels of the organization demonstrating an open, honest and consistent approach to working with others.
  • Ability to supervise crews of 6 or more employees.
  • Ability to work independently and to ensure quality completion of multiple projects.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS / WORK CONDITIONS

Physical Requirements: Ability to exert moderate/high physical effort of lifting heavy parts, brake drums, etc. and to working in fatiguing or awkward positions for a considerable period of time during repair work.

Work Conditions:

  • Work is performed in a repair shop environment with conditions that may be dirty, wet, noisy and greasy.
  • There may be a possibility of overtime.
