Thomson Reuters (formerly Dr Tax Software Inc.) is looking for a System engineer web services with a strong Microsoft technologies background to join their IT team in Montreal, Quebec. The system engineer will work closely with other IT team members as well as the R&D department to ensure the stability, integrity, and efficient operation of the information systems that support our core web services and products (UFile) in both production and pre-production environments. This is achieved by deploying code, monitoring, maintaining, supporting, and optimizing all Internet information services (IIS), associated operating systems, web sites and databases. Responsibilities – Perform daily tasks relative to the operational support of all web services and systems, primarily Windows application and web servers (IIS).
- Understand the architecture, integration points and pipelines of the respective applications in the portfolio. – Experience with packaging and deployment of .Net applications. – This position is responsible for emergency response as needed to correct system failures as well as participation in 24/7 on call rotation. – Validation of the application through the pipeline by working with the team to co-ordinate regression and performance tests.
- Take a primary role in the change management processes, working closely with development and QA departments to ensure proper testing and deployment of updates of all web services and servers. – Create and maintain documentation as it relates to system configuration, mapping, processes, and service records. – Help manage the data center and computer host systems including hardware, software and equipment. Position Requirements Formal Education & Certification University degree in computer science or software engineering and 3-5 years equivalent work experience.
Professional certification such as MCITP, MCSE, MCSA, CISSP and ITIL an asset. Knowledge & Experience Experience delivering and supporting high-volume, mission-critical web-based applications to external customers. Strong working technical knowledge of web technologies, architecture, and Internet standards, including HTTPS, Web services, Windows servers, IIS, .Net and VMware. Proven experience with systems planning, security principles, and general software management best practices (ITIL).
Proven experience in overseeing the design, development, and implementation of software systems, applications, and related products. Experience with application monitoring tools such as New Relic and/or Zabbix. Experience with source controls systems such as Git or TFS. Excellent collaboration skills with the Development and Operations teams, as well as with all other stakeholders.
Excellent software troubleshooting experience. Working technical knowledge of some programming languages and asset. Working knowledge of networking, including Firewalls, WAFs, load balancing, clustering, Routing, and TCP/IP. Knowledge of applicable data privacy practices, laws and PCI security standards.

Occasional physical inspection of cables in floors and ceilings. Lifting and transporting moderately heavy objects, such as computers and peripherals.
