General Information

Reporting directly to the Senior Management team and working closely with Project Managers and other field level safety professionals, the Health Safety & Environment (HSE) Manager will be the main contact for health and safety issues for all active jobsite. Travel to various company locations is anticipated to be up to fifty percent of the work schedule.


  • Champion health and safety in the region and monitor/coach for appropriate behaviours and attitudes;
  • Regular field visits to facility construction projects and branch locations to ensure health, safety and environmental standards are maintained and enforced;
  • Participate in pre-Job and tailgate meetings at job sites with a specific focus on Job Safety Analysis for quality and completeness;
  • Participate in planned facility inspections and make recommendations for improvement;
  • Prepare/provide safety training and awareness presentations at Operations meetings;
  • Conduct facility sound surveys;
  • Investigate incidents to determine root cause and determine appropriate mitigation to minimize incident recurrence;
  • Review incident reports for accuracy and coach employees, as required;
  • Assist in the development of a Project Safety Plans as per site projects and ensure implementation on the ground level in conjunction with Project Managers;
  • Conduct required safety reporting, preparation of monthly safety statistics, trending and presentation to Management team;
  • Maintain and implement all standards to the COR program through Enform standards;
  • Other tasks as required.


  • Strong technical safety expertise (risk management and safety management systems, loss control management, hazard identification, incident investigations, emergency preparedness and response);
  • Leadership skills to act as a role model, promoting a positive influence on the work of others through demonstration of technical expertise and effective interpersonal skills;
  • Experience with TapRoot root cause analysis (or similar RCA tools);
  • High level of analytical ability and strategic thinking required to gather and evaluate complex information obtained from a variety of sources and to formulate recommendations;
  • Proven ability to make decisions where only general policies and procedures are available requiring application of judgement and independent action;
  • Ability to learn quickly, open to change and focused on continuous improvement;
  • Dedicated to meeting expectations and requirements of internal and external clients;
  • Effective communication, writing and public speaking skills;
  • Ability to effectively and efficiently coordinate actions as part of an HS&E team;
  • Excellent planning and time management skills;
  • Ability to interact at all levels of the organization and across the business;
  • Knowledge and understanding of past and emerging HS&E issues both internally and externally;
  • Knowledge of Federal and Provincial OH&S legislation an asset.


  • Requires a college diploma or university degree with four (4) or more years of health and safety experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • 5 to 7 years’ experience in a safety related field
  • A Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) designation is preferred.
