RESPONSIBILITIES:

The successful candidate’s major responsibilities include pastoral care for children and youth, support and outreach to parents and equipping and supporting corps youth leaders; more specifically the Youth Ministries Director will:

Provide pastoral care for children/youth through relationship ministry, one on one and in groups

Develop outreach strategies and complete personal follow up with children and youth to encourage their attendance and participation at the corps

Support and facilitate existing children and youth ministries and activities with participation as required

Support children and youth by attending special events (i.e. camps/councils/retreats, etc.)

Support children and youth in difficult or crisis situations and refer to appropriate services

Assist in recruiting, training, and maintaining youth leaders as part of a youth ministry team

Support youth workers in their ministry through personal encouragement and practical assistance, when required

Assist in the evaluation of existing children and youth ministries and exploration of the development of new ministries, where possible, to increase the level of spiritual maturity among our children and youth

Participate in the Youth Ministries Committee and advise on the spiritual needs of children/youth and how these may be met

Participate in Sunday services as determined by the Corps Officer; assist in the development and leadership of youth worship services (i.e. Junior Soldiers Renewal, Family Sundays, Rally Day)

Maintain written and statistical records

QUALIFICATIONS:

The successful candidate must have:

Undergraduate degree or related experience in children/youth ministries

Ability to build mentoring relationships with children and youth

Ability to maintain positive relationships with parents and youth leaders

Ability to be an active participant of a team that includes officers and youth leaders

Organizational/time management/leadership skills

Have computer experience with knowledge in Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, Power Point and Publisher

Own vehicle and hold valid driver’s license

Obtain a Criminal Police Check and clearance through the Salvation Army Territorial Internal Abuse Registry

The successful candidate must be willing to uphold the vision, mission and values of the Salvation Army and be a member of or be willing to become a member of the St. John’s Citadel Corps. It is preferred, but not essential, that the successful candidate be a Salvation Army soldier in good standing.

TERM: Full-time; one year maternity leave placement
HOURS: 70 hours bi-weekly; irregular and include evenings and weekends

Vehicle benefit to be negotiated as part of employment contract.
