RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide leadership of various camp activities including games, crafts, story time, snack, and outdoor activities.
Supervise a group of children with another team member, monitor their activities, encourage participation.
Ensure the health and safety of all children.
Provide a safe and fun environment for all children.
Attend all field trips.
Participate in all activities (i.e. games, skits, stories, etc.).
Provide medical attention when needed and report incident to camp supervisor and record in logbook.
Guide campers in participating successfully in all aspects of camp activities.
Encourage respect for personal property, camp equipment, and facilities.
Observe camper behavior, assess its appropriateness, enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures, and apply appropriate behavior management techniques.
Perform other position related duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
University/College student who was in school full-time either in Early Childhood Education, Youth and or/Child Care Worker or Developmental Services Worker during the 2015-2016 school year and is returning to school full-time in 2016-2017
Possess leadership qualities, is organized, hardworking, dedicated and creative
Strong oral and written communication skills. Self-motivated and disciplined
Experience/working knowledge in Word processing; spread sheet use
Provide an original copy of a Background Check with vulnerable sector screening that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required. The screening is secured either through the National Canadian Policy Information Centre (CPIC) or through a local police detachment.
May require screening through The Salvation Army Abuse Registry.
Support for and an understanding of the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada.
NOTE: Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered
This position is funded in part through the Canada Summer Jobs Program and the following represents the applicant
criteria:
• a post-secondary student, between 18 and 30 years of age at the start of the program
• have been registered as full-time student in the previous academic year and intend to return to school on a full-time basis in the next academic year;
• be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act; and,
• be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations.
This is a temporary, full time position based on 40 hours per week. The working conditions are such that in order to meet the operational needs of the camp some flexibility is required as it relates to hours of work. Hours of work – To be determined in consultation with the supervisor as per the operational requirements of the camp program, Monday to Friday, 7:45 a.m. to 5:15 p.m.
Note: There are four (4) positions available.
Note: Required to provide written confirmation of enrolment for the next academic year from a secondary, post-secondary, vocational, or technical program
Start Date: June 20, 2016 End Date: August 26, 2016
Required to be available for the complete ten (10) week camp program
