RESPONSIBILITIES:
Contribute to the spiritual development of children and young families within the church and community by mentoring, discipling, encouraging, and modeling appropriate attitudes and behaviors.
Coordinate and maintain Salvation Army programs/ministries relevant to the children of the church and community at large including worship, fellowship, discipleship, and regular special events.
Participate in and coordination of the Christian education programs for infants, children and youth including assisting in the training and development of its leaders and acting as a resource support.
Plan and implement fellowship events for children, youth and young families with the goal of creating fun, fellowship and outreach.
Demonstrate keen interest in connecting young families to our church through programs and relationship building.
Maintain rolls and stats relevant to children and youth ministries; maintain accurate and up to date records for all leaders
Maintain program storage areas and Nursery Room. (e.g., toy cleaning, updating, safety, organizing, etc.)
Plan, supervise and participate in regular special corps events, primarily focused on children, youth and their families.
Support and participate in Divisional children and youth events.
Implement a plan for leadership development, recruit, train, and retain volunteer leaders for children and youth ministries, and facilitate opportunities for further training, spiritual support, and volunteer recognition; act as a resource support; conduct regular leader meetings.
Demonstrate keen pastoral interest in and involvement with children, youth, and their families.
Evaluate the effectiveness of current programming, propose changes as needed and successfully design and implement changes to ensure relevant children and youth ministries.
Develop and implement children and youth outreach ministries in cooperation with the Community and Family Services Coordinator.
May provide input into the departmental budget and be required to monitor the financial performance accordingly.
Prepare and deliver children and youth worship services and devotionals for both the senior corps and for youth events on a regular basis.
Perform other position related duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Completion of a Community College, e.g. Diploma in Biblical Studies, a degree in Biblical Studies or equivalent education would be an asset
Minimum of two (2) years prior related experience working with and providing programs for children and/or youth is preferred.
Demonstrated ability to work with and relate to young people and parents
Current Safe Food Handling Certificate and CPR/First Aid Certificate, or willing to obtain and maintain current certification
Strong team player, leadership skills are required
Understanding of the children and youth and associated needs
Proficiency with social media and Microsoft Office, Word, PowerPoint
Ability to play a musical instrument is an asset
Self-motivated and disciplined
Ability to fulfill responsibilities according to Salvation Army standards by independently applying supervisory directives
Adaptable, behaves ethically, builds relationships and communicates effectively
Creative, innovative and fosters teamwork; organized and can solve problems
Valid Ontario Class “G” Driver’s License, personal vehicle and insurance is required; an original copy of a current Driver’s Abstract that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion is required.
Provide an original copy of a Criminal Background Check with vulnerable sector screening that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required. The screening is secured either through the National Canadian Policy Information Centre (CPIC) or through a local police detachment.
Participation in The Salvation Army Winterberry Community Church as an active member is expected.

This is a temporary, part time position based on 10 hours per week. Flexibility in scheduling is required and will vary according to the needs of the children and youth ministries, including weekend and evening work. Travel is required.
