Actively promote the Gospel of Jesus Christ to staff and clients/residents by providing spiritual leadership, pastoral counselling and by modeling the Christian faith in all interactions.
Coordinate, organize and maintain delivery of spiritual and religious care to all clients/residents, staff and community members.
Develop and implement a process in which to communicate the availability of a chaplain for all clients (inclusive of all Lawson Ministries and Grace Haven/New Choices).
Implement a process that ensures an opportunity for spiritual history/assessment with each resident/client based upon their spiritual care needs or strengths.
Provide crisis support and pastoral counselling to clients/residents, staff and family members as needed.
Document a spiritual assessment and appropriate pastoral care plan according to methods used for client documentation in the ministry unit.
Provide a ministry presence through regular interactions with clients/residents and staff within the ministry unit. Participate in and/or provide leadership of other client centered programs and activities (recreational groups, seasonal events, life skills groups, etc.).
Maintain a connection to community faith and spiritual group leaders for appropriate referrals and support of clients.
Facilitate weekly chapel services and other spiritual and religious based services. i.e. chapel or worship services, prayer meetings, client and staff bible studies, discipleship groups, seasonal celebrations, memorials.
Provide and/or arrange for the spiritual care and pastoral counselling of clients/residents and staff; ensuring and respecting the freedom of choice and privacy of individuals to select and/or request spiritual support. Facilitate clients’ attendance at Church when requested.
Participate in the development, provision and evaluation of relevant religious services and programs for clients/residents as well as in-services for staff.
Maintain knowledge of current best practices by reviewing various spiritual care literatures, consulting with community/denominational experts in spiritual care, and attending professional development activities.
Maintain accurate statistics on the delivery of spiritual care.
Develop and implement policies and procedures for spiritual care; ensure The Salvation Army accreditation standards for spiritual care are met.
Perform other position related duties as required.

Degree in Theology, Divinity or related discipline from an accredited university, theological school or seminary
French Language is an asset
Two (2) years of experience in a spiritual care role in a social services setting
Ordination or documentation in good standing in own faith group
Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) as delivered by Canadian Association for Spiritual Care (CASC formerly CAPPE) is not required, but would be an asset
Extensive knowledge of spiritual care and/or pastoral counselling and its application within a Residential/Non Residential Settings
Thorough knowledge of community resources, various theologies and faith backgrounds
Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of clients/residents, staff, public, and community agencies.
Ability to prepare and present education material
Ability to deal with others effectively within a team setting and to use judgment and diplomacy
Self-directed with a demonstrated ability to plan, establish, organize and accomplish objectives, complete assignments and meet deadlines.
Computer literacy with word processing, spreadsheet and database skills
Able to work as a part of a team and independently when necessary with minimal supervision
Ability to lift/move 20 lbs.
Adaptability: Demonstrate a willingness to be flexible, versatile, and/or tolerant in a changing work environment while maintaining effectiveness and efficiency.

Organize: Set priorities, develop a work schedule, monitor progress towards goals, and track details, data, information, and activities.
A valid Ontario Class “G” Driver’s License, own vehicle and insurance and a current driver’s abstract that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required.
Provide an original copy of a Background Check with vulnerable sector screening that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required. The screening is secured either through the national Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC) or through a local police detachment.

Support for and an understanding of the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada.

This is a full time position based on 35 hours per week. Willing to work evenings / weekends as needed, including regular involvement at the Sunday afternoon chapel service. Willing to work at Christmas and Easter to support / lead special seasonal services. Flexibility in hours is required. Travel is required. On-call duties as assigned, every 3rd weekend – Grace Haven

Normal hours of work will be determined in consultation with your supervisor Monday to Friday. Includes a ½ hr. unpaid meal break where applicable
