JOB PURPOSE:

The Activity Assistant carries out program activities to meet the physical, social, spiritual and emotional needs of the residents.

CFS Front Line: To carry out the functions of the HRM Community &family Services by assisting clients.

Open Arms: To develop and implement life-skill and community connection programs targeted towards Women of all ages who live in Uniacke Square and surrounding area. To assist the Coordinator with administration and occasional special projects.

CHARACTERISTIC JOB DUTIES:

CFS Front Line (30%):

  • Assist clients in determining need
  • Assist in various administrative duties as required
  • Use central registry to determine client’s eligibility for assistance
  • Maintain and update client files
  • Assist with the packing and distribution of food and goods

Open Arms (70%):

  • Assist the Coordinator with the creation of Women’s programs, including program preparation and delivery.
  • Deliver daily program (leading activities and assisting with daily program evaluation).
  • Build and maintain positive, encouraging relationships with the Clients and Community at large.
  • Apply Open Arms policies as they relate to program delivery.
  • Attend and participate in off-site special outings/special events for women.
  • Assist the Coordinator in creating and maintaining processes for administration and central inventory. Participate in staff meetings and trainings on an occasional basis as directed.
  • Model appropriate professional behavior
  • Have knowledge of the Salvation Army’s Mission Statement as well as the policies and procedures of the Salvation Army to ensure they are upheld.

NOTE: Not all incumbents perform all of the duties described above but perform a similar range of duties.

MINIMUM EDUCATION LEVEL ATTAINED:

The successful job applicant will have completed up to two (2) years of Community College.

NOTE: An alternative level of education and experience may be acceptable.

SPECIAL LICENSES, DIPLOMAS, CERTIFICATIONS OR REQUIREMENTS:

The successful applicant will hold/have:

Position requires: Child Abuse Registry Check, Criminal Record Check

  • Must attend mandatory training provided by The Salvation Army
  • Annual WHMIS Training and certification
  • Safe Food Handling Courses
  • Current Certification in First Aid/CPR

MINIMUM PRIOR RELATED EXPERIENCE:

The incumbent must have the following experience before hire:

  • Up to three months of prior related experience, including experience working with volunteers and seniors who may have cognitive impairment, organizing outing/special events, and management of aggressive behaviour.

PHYSICAL EFFORT/DEXTERITY REQUIRED:

The performance of the job requires frequently standing/walking for long periods of time, lifting, transporting, crouching, bending, and twisting.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

24 hours per week
