Position: Developmental Services Worker

Temporary Full-Time (1.0 FTE) Days/Evenings

Contract End Date: February 27, 2016

Program: Community Mental Health Program – Flexible Assertive Community Treatment for Persons Dually Diagnosed (Intellectual Disability and Mental Illness)

Location: Royal Ottawa Mental Health Centre – Carlingwood Site

Duties :

  • Participate as a member of a multi-disciplinary treatment team
  • Participate in daily FACT team meetings to review clients and organize daily assignments.
  • Provide consistent, supportive interactions and activities to clients, in keeping with evidence based behavioral plans.
  • Provide support and education to caregivers including family members and agency staff.
  • Monitor and evaluate client progress and revise treatment/rehabilitation plans as indicated.
  • Provide direct assistance with symptom management (24 hour crisis support, individual clinical relationships, etc).
  • Link and accompany clients to appropriate resources in the community
  • Complete and maintain all necessary documentation as per ACT and professional standards
  • Complete all required non-clinical administrative documentation (i.e. workload measurement, quality improvement, forms, etc.).
  • Other duties may reasonably be assigned
  • Work in a manner that is in compliance with staff and patient/client safety practices, policies and procedures of The Royal.
  • Ensure a work environment that is conducive to The Royal’s Respectful Workplace policy.

Position Requirements

  • Developmental Services Worker diploma.
  • Minimum of 3 years recent experience in health care or social services providing psychiatric, developmental services and mental health care to persons with a Dual Diagnosis is required.
  • Experience working in community mental health an asset.
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to develop collaborative working relationships with community partners
  • Knowledge of developmental services sector, resources and application processes.
  • CPR training or recertification within the last 12 months.
  • Demonstrated ability to incorporate evidence base and innovation into practice.
  • Computer skills an asset.
  • Related educational experience an asset (i.e. Social services, Recreation or other relevant field).
  • WHMIS update in preceding 12 months.
  • Fire Training update in the past 12 months.
  • Completion of Prevention of Violence in the Workplace training (C.P.I.) required.
  • English level A- is mandatory in oral expression, oral comprehension, reading comprehension and written expression. Bilingualism (French/English) is mandatory.
  • Valid class G driver’s license. Valid driver’s license and access to reliable vehicle.
