The Olde Forge Community Resource Centre provides community support services to seniors and adults with a physical disability, living in the west end of Ottawa. In addition, the Olde Forge serves as a community resource centre and provides some additional services to the community of Ottawa as a whole.

Seniors’ support services include home repair and maintenance, respite, day program, luncheon program, transportation to medical appointments, friendly visiting and telephone assurance.

The Recreation Assistant will:

  • Report to the Recreation Program Manager
  • Assist staff to effectively promote and deliver recreational programs to the senior population.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the organization and implementation of agency programs in collaboration with staff Coordinator(s).
  • Help recruit, supervise and monitor volunteers as required
  • Oversee offsite programs: duties include program set-up, client check-in and clean up
  • Develop and facilitate recreational programming
  • Receive payments and maintain client records
  • Maintain appropriate department records, statistics
  • Assist with community outreach and program promotion
  • Provide general information to clients and the public
  • Answering inquiries received by phone, fax, email and mail
  • Represent the Olde Forge in a professional manner
  • Assist with other community support service duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:

  • GED required, College diploma preferred
  • Experience planning and implementing recreation activities
  • Previous experience working with seniors
  • Previous experience working with and supervising volunteers
  • Proficient in Microsoft office Applications
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to motivate clients and volunteers
  • Demonstrated organizational skills
  • Creative, self-motivated and be able to work independently
  • Physically able to maintain a high energy level & stamina to walk and/or stand for long periods of time in order to facilitate program activities
  • Ability to communicate in English (oral and written)
  • Valid Ontario driver’s license and access to a personal vehicle
  • Ability to work flexible hours to meet program needs

Preferred Qualifications / Assets:

  • Ability to communicate in French and/or other languages
  • Experience using Microsoft Publisher
  • Program planning and development
  • Familiarity with Client Information Systems
