The Mustard Seed is a Christian humanitarian organization whose vision is to build community, grow hope and support change. Intentionally following Jesus Christ and partnering with the community, The Mustard Seed combats the root causes of poverty in Alberta and works to create positive, lasting change in the lives of those we serve. The Mustard Seed provides basic services – food, clothing and housing, and support services – education and employment, to those living in poverty within Alberta and British Columbia.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Volunteer Facilitator – Community Hubs will supervise, maintain and grow volunteer programing at the various community hubs throughout Calgary. The position will give the successful candidate a robust look into The Mustard Seed as a social agency, an opportunity to be a part of a strong and dynamic program focused team, growth in various professional skills, and a strong reference for a transition internally or externally.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supervise various creative volunteer programs at 4+ hubs throughout Calgary;
  • Work collaboratively with Community Projects Coordinator to achieve 2018/2019 Community Hub volunteer goals;
  • Assist Volunteer Resources Manager in evaluating and maintaining volunteer activities and programs;
  • Work collaboratively with Community, Employment and Wellness departments to ensure programs have needed resources and capacity to deliver an effective seasonal program;
  • Coordinate and control the flow of public inquiries and request for program registration, donations and volunteering;
  • Facilitate volunteer engagement seasonally and in community hub locations;

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

  • University Degree or equivalent work experience in a relevant field would be an asset (i.e. Human Resources, Administration, Volunteer Management, Customer Service, etc.)
  • 2+ years of related experience working with communities affected by poverty and homelessness, or volunteer work in a community setting
  • Ambition to grow community programs and impact the citizens of Calgary
  • Excellent administrative, time management and organizational skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, public relations and group facilitation skills
  • Demonstrated success in leading and managing staff and volunteers
  • Self-motivated and capacity to work independently
  • Competent with Microsoft Office

OTHER INFORMATION

  • This position is located at our Marlborough Park Neighbor Centre Community Hub;
  • 6 months’ Part-time contract position with possibility of extension; occasional evenings and weekends may be required;
  • This role will have significant people interaction, both with staff and volunteers, but will also involve considerable administrative work;
  • Employment Security Check is required;
  • As The Mustard Seed is a Christian ministry, we require our employees to be in agreement and to sign our statement of faith;
  • Must have legal authorization to work in Canada on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer;
