We are currently seeking an Energy Supply Specialist at our Regina, SK location. The position will be responsible for planning and execution of energy procurement activity from the point of purchase or sale through transportation, transmission, delivery and/or receipt of natural gas and electricity. This individual will be the primary contact for supply partners with respect to gas control, daily nominations, spot purchases and sales and web application interfaces. The Specialist will recommend annual natural gas contract counterparties and draft annual agreements. The position will coordinate with production facilities, supply chain, product management and external counterparties and consultants to resolve supply disruptions and leverage Mosaic’s natural gas storage facilities in order to minimize supply disruptions and optimize economic performance of gas supply. This individual will monitor long-term emerging gas supply and pricing issues, and actively participate with energy supply team to create and execute plans to respond to risks and opportunities.

What will you be working on?

  • Manage pipeline imbalances and gas storage inventories by executing spot market gas purchases or sales. Manage and optimize transportation on the natural gas pipelines serving Mosaic facilities in Canada and United States. Optimize economic performance and reduce supply risks to Mosaic Canada facilities by managing inventories of Mosaic’s gas storage facilities. Minimize market exposure by working closely with all facilities to determine shut down and maintenance plans, ensuring cost savings are utilized within the pipelines
  • Manage daily gas control function through direct communication with individual Mosaic facilities in Canada and United States; nominate daily gas volumes to Mosaic sites with suppliers; react to emergency gas supply balance issues caused by unexpected Mosaic facility outages, etc. Be available to react to emergency gas delivery issues during non-routine work hours. Maintain open communication with all suppliers and Canadian consultant which will ensure cost savings are optimized
  • Maintain energy fundamentals database to support market analysis by the Energy Supply Team. Evaluate daily gas pricing to determine appropriate cost savings. Produce quarterly KIODEX MTM reports and publish commodity position reports to Mosaic Financial Reporting
  • Validate and process invoices for payment and confirm payment processing via access to KOFAX and SAP. Provide contract, document and record management support for the energy supply function. Submit monthly budget actuals and accruals for all Canadian and US plant sites. Work closely with Financial Reporting to ensure accurate budget numbers are being booked. Report accurate monthly gas plan budgets to Financial Reporting, ensuring forecasting gas plan reflects plant site plans. This requires working closely with Production personnel at each site to determine future plans
  • Along with the Manager, Energy Supply, establish yearly firm natural gas contracts with all Canadian and US natural gas suppliers. Work closely with key internal and external stakeholders to mitigate future risk to Mosaic on any issues related to the supply of natural gas to our facilities (ex. Carbon Tax issues)

What is required for this role?

  • Degree in Business or Commerce with specialization in Finance preferred
  • 1-3 years of direct Energy Supply or finance experience
  • Requires work schedule flexibility and may entail limited work during off-hours or weekends to address plant operational upsets
  • Basic Microsoft suite of applications; KIODEX software application acumen; advanced level Excel skills; must be capable of completing training for SAP and KOFAX user certification, experience or knowledge related to online web applications and data acquisition acumen is highly desirable
  • Knowledge of the North American gas and power markets is an asset
  • Knowledge of, or experience in commodity or financial risk management is a definite asset.
  • Knowledge of Potash and Phosphate operations or work experience at a production facility would be an asset.
  • Employment is subject to successfully completing Mosaic’s pre-employment checks including criminal, drug and alcohol testing
  • Must be authorized to work in Canada
