Objectives

The incumbent will have primary responsibility for the leadership, strategic direction and day-to-day operations of the warehouse and warehouse staff. The Manager of Warehouse Operations is responsible to lead the warehouse team to manage all food that is donated/purchased and ensure its timely and safe distribution through the network of member agency food programs.

Responsibilities

Overall Management

  • Monitor all warehouse equipment/trucks/vehicles, coordinating repairs and/or replacement as necessary and ensuring safe operation at all time.
  • Responsible for maintenance and currency of all required equipment operator training/certification
  • Participate in regular management team meetings, sharing information and contributing to overall strategy development and achievement of goals
  • Responsible for compliance with all health and safety, and food safety/handling regulations throughout the facility (includes developing standards, posting standards/procedures, training as necessary, ensuring staff and volunteer compliance, etc.)

Supervision of Warehouse Staff

  • Direct and supervise the work of Warehouse Operator(s) and Driver(s), including creation of daily run sheets coordinating as required with appropriate staff
  • Act as a general resource to staff and volunteers regarding warehouse operations
  • Responsible for the recruiting, hiring/terminating, performance assessment, compensation, and training/development of all warehouse staff

Inventory Management

  • Effectively administer and utilize the WWMS (wireless warehouse management (inventory) system) to manage the safe receipt, storage and shipment of all products.
  • Monitor Canadian Food Inspection Agency notifications and take any corrective action, as required.
  • Ensure agency orders are filled according to Canada’s Food Guide standards
  • Maintain positive relations with member agencies and community stakeholders regarding deliveries, pick ups, product quality, and management of expectations, etc.
  • Develop/maintain current warehouse Standard Operating Procedures and ensure staff and volunteer compliance

Reporting

  • Provide regular reports to management team regarding warehouse activities; provide input into annual warehouse operations budget
  • Coordinate special requests (including community events) with marketing and development team, as required

Other Duties as Assigned or Required

Qualifications

  • 7-10 years experience in a warehouse environment; at least 3 in a management/supervisory capacity
  • Class G driver’s license (clean abstract) and current forklift certificate required ; class D (with experience) considered an asset
  • Proven fleet management experience, including routing and maintenance
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, and demonstrated ability to lead a team
  • Ability to manually lift up to 50lbs
  • Strong MS Office skills; knowledge of Google Drive and Inventory Management Systems an asset
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced, high pressure warehouse environment, and to adapt to rapidly changing priorities
  • Excellent organizational skills, with proven ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines
  • Ability to exercise discretion and confidentiality at all times
  • Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends

Reporting: This position reports to the Executive Director, and supervises the Driver(s) and Warehouse Operator(s). Member of the Management Team.

Type : Full-time (38 hours/week – Monday, Tuesday, Thursday 9-5; Wednesday 9-8; Friday 9-12). Some evening/weekend work may be required

Pay: $45,000-$55,000; commensurate with qualifications and experience, plus funding for professional development, employer-paid health benefits, reimbursement for mobile phone, and paid vacation time

Environment: A closed-door office with your own PC workstation. There is a lunchroom with access to all the tea or coffee you can drink. Some staff order in lunch and eat together on Wednesdays. The staff team laughs a lot, pitches in during those “all hands on deck” times, and enjoys celebrating together at outings a couple times a year.
