Winter 2016 Externship Opportunity: LOCATION: 18 Wynford Drive, Suite 401, Toronto (Don Mills & Eglinton area) REPORTS TO: Community Events Specialist

OVERVIEW: This position will be focused on assisting with event marketing for our winter and spring events at the Ontario Lung Association along with other event related administrative duties. Working under the direction of the Community Events Specialist and enlisting volunteer assistance as appropriate, the Special Events Assistant supports the planning and preparation for the 2017 Tulip Day campaign in the Greater Toronto Area and York Region as well as marketing and recruiting for our I Love Lungs Team. All work is carried out in accordance with Ontario Lung Association policies and procedures and the agreed budget. This unpaid internship is ideally suited to students pursuing special events planning or fundraising studies. Learning outcomes include project management skills (tracking progress against critical path and budget), volunteer and participant recruitment and orientation experience and fundraising communication skills.


  • Assist with the recruitment of volunteers to assist with deliveries and on-site sales
  • Work with the Community Events Specialist to prepare orientation information for volunteers.
  • Follow up with local businesses and institutions that received the Tulip Day pre-order fax blast to promote the event. Re-engage past Workplace Champions and recruit new ones, directing them to the website to register, and encouraging them in their pre-sales to staff.
  • Other duties as assigned from time to time by the Community Events Specialist.


  • Required Qualifications:
  • previous experience and/or events planning education and demonstrated skills in planning, promoting, implementing and evaluating special events
  • experience recruiting and working with volunteers
  • excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to enlist the cooperation of others
  • good written and verbal communication and presentation skills
  • strong organizational, administrative and time management abilities
  • computer proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including Excel, e-mail and the InternetWorking hours per week: Payment Information:

Anticipated Time Commitment: 24 hours min per week during office hours (within 8:30 to 4:30, Monday to Friday) January 2 to February 17, 2017 After the placement ends, students are invited to volunteer their time to help with the execution of deliveries and on site sales
