Kitchen Helper
This role is a stepping stone to becoming an Executive Chef. As a member of the Kitchen team, you are responsible for the daily production and preparation of food items in any of the kitchens assigned. This is an opportunity to start your culinary career.

Centrally located in downtown Calgary, The Fairmont Palliser is the city’s premier, landmark hotel. With 407 elegantly appointed guest rooms, and the recent completion of an extensive renovation project, The Fairmont Palliser is truly the place to be.
Summary of Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Executive Chef, responsibilities and essential job functions include but are not limited to the following:
The Duties below, and Other duties as assigned by management
Provide warm, sincere and engaging service that follows the service essentials, ensuring Guests feel valued
Treat each and every Guest as a unique individual, personalizing the interaction(s) with thoughtful and personal touches
Resolve Guest problems and never say “no” without offering an alternative. OWN the follow-up to ensure the problem is resolved, and be that guest’s point of contact
Be an ambassador for the Brand, Hotel, Community and Colleagues
Be guided by and always exhibit Fairmont core values; respect, integrity, teamwork, accountability & Excellence
Be aware of, support and ensure all health and safety policies, environmental policies & evacuation procedures including updates are adhered to
Follow and deliver all Leading Quality Assurance Standards for your position
Ensure a safe, clean hotel at all times and take ownership for your area
Adhere to grooming policies to ensure a professional appearance is always maintained
Consistently offers professional, engaging and friendly service
The preparation of menu items as assigned and cooking of food for service
The organization of food item mise en place required for the station assigned
Work effectively and efficiently on the station to which is assigned
Ability to multi task effectively with a variety of tasks and assigned duties
Maintaining food quality, preparation and timeliness through use of established standards and safe food handling practices
Maintains food cost through the minimization of food waste
Maintains a safe work environment
All other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Previous experience is an asset
Journeymen’s papers or Red Seal or equivalents would be an asset
A minimum of 1 year experience in a similar hotel or restaurant environment
Must have good communication and interpersonal skills
Must be able to work flexible shifts
The following courses would be an asset: WHIMIS, FOOD SAFE
Constant standing and walking throughout shift
Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds
Must be able to stand for long periods of time (for up to 8 hours)
Must be able to work in both hot (behind cooking line) and cold (fridge/freezer) environment
Physical Aspects of Position (include but are not limited to):

Hourly Rate:
$16.98 per hour to start, $17.98 full rate
Visa Requirements:
Must be legally eligible to work in Canada. The hotel is unable to assist candidates in obtaining Canadian work authorization.
