Job Summary
Inthis position, you will plan, organize, instruct and lead activities in basiclevel art programs for participants from ages pre-school through to youth. Youwill also be responsible for ensuring a positive and safe environment forparticipants and peers at the Aaniin Community Centre.

JobDuties Facilitates, leads and supervises the Artprogram Organizes and writeslesson plans to be handed in by week two of the program Develops lesson plansspecific to the abilities of each group. Reviews lesson plans with theRecreation Supervisor/ Program Coordinator prior to class and submits at theend of each session Prepares and organizesprogram equipment and supplies, maintaining an inventory of supplies, reportingto the Program Coordinator/ Recreation Supervisor any items needing replacement Meets with parents (ifneeded) prior to, or after class time Directly guidesvolunteers and part time Program Assistants as required Advises ProgramCoordinator/ Recreation Supervisor of any customer service issues, complaintsor inquires Ensures safety at ALLtimes, enforcing safety regulations as set out by the City of Markham policiesand procedures Ensures the site,equipment and supplies are appropriate to the art activity and environment toreduce and minimize risk to other staff and participants. Children between theages of 6 – 12 years must use the buddy system when going to the washroom.Escorts pre-school children to the washroom or change room, ensuring thatpreschool children are never left in the sole attendance of a volunteer. Adheres to theprinciples of Healthy Child Development (children ages 6 to 12 years) Other duties as required.
MinimumQualification/ Requirements Successful completion ofa high school diploma Pursuing post-secondaryeducation in Art, Art History or a Teaching Certificate is preferred Early Childhood EducationDiploma is an asset Successful completion ofHigh Five Certificate and adherence to the principles of Healthy ChildDevelopment (children ages 6 to 12 years) Minimum 2 years combinedprevious experience working with children and or adults in an instructionalrole Must be able to workindependently with minimal supervision Excellent customerservice and communication skills and sensitivity to interact with a diversityof patrons in a courteous and efficient manner Able to deal tactfullywith customers Good interpersonalskills Good organizationalskills Good computer skills (MSOffice) and ability to learn new software Current Standard FirstAid with CPR ‘C’
