(The Roads Foreman requires specific experience in the construction, maintenance and repair of streets and lanes, etc)….

Coordinate and efficiently utilize heavy equipment, personnel and materials at the job site in order to complete assigned construction, maintenance and/or repair activities within time schedules and required specifications and standards. Supervise crewmembers and ensure that all safety precautions are followed. Keep written or computer records of daily activities.

Job Requirements:
Grade 12 or equivalent.

Must have a minimum Level One Certified Public Works Supervisor designation from the Canadian Public Works Association – Alberta Chapter. Completion of Supervisory, Foremanship, Safety and First Aid courses

Three and one-half years experience in related construction and maintenance activities, or equivalent, to provide knowledge of the types and capabilities of equipment, the use of man power, the type and proper use of materials and standard methods and techniques of construction and maintenance. (The Roads Foreman requires specific experience in the construction, maintenance and repair of streets and lanes, etc).

Knowledge of basic surveying methods is desirable.

Valid Alberta Class 3 Driver’s License with a “Q” endorsement.

Ability to operate or drive a variety of heavy equipment typically used in assigned activities and to use various machines and tools (e.g. water pumps, power tamper, chainsaws, level and measuring instruments).

Ability to read and interpret specifications, etc. and to accurately complete various records and statistics of programs and projects.

Ability to supervise, organize and coordinate personnel and equipment, to communicate clearly to crewmembers and to provide encouragement and discipline as required.

Ability to respond courteously to public inquiries and complaints.

Ability to work with considerable independence in supervising activities and in making efficient use of significant expenditures (e.g. $15 000 per shift).

Ability to exert occasional moderate physical effort (e.g. lifting manhole covers, climbing into ditches).

Ability to work outside continuously in all types of weather and in conditions which may be particularly muddy, noisy and disagreeable (e.g. snow storms, road excavations, creeks).

Ability to exercise care (e.g. when working near traffic, in ditches (up to 10 metres), near power lines and in areas which may contain potentially dangerous gases).

Ability to be on call for emergencies (e.g. flooding, snow removal).

Ability to prepare cost estimates for future and existing projects and to prepare anticipated future work lists.

Ability to operate a personal computer using Microsoft Excel, Word and Access software.

Hours of Work: 7:00 am to 5:30 pm, 4 days per week. Days vary each week.

Please Note: This position is anticipated to be approximately 5 month.
