SALARY: Authority Band 10 ($93,940 – $97,697 – $101,606 – $105,670)

Reporting to Director, Environmental Services; this safety-sensitive position is responsible for the oversight and management of The Calgary Airport Authority’s water quality program. The position is responsible for the following primary duties:

  • Manage the surface and groundwater quality monitoring program to maintain compliance with applicable Municipal, Provincial and Federal regulations.
  • Review water quality reports and analytical results from laboratory analysis for regulatory compliance and water quality investigations.
  • Oversee onsite activities in collaboration with internal stakeholders, including appropriate operation of storm water infrastructure, distributed deicing programs, glycol collection and treatment, and other programs as required to maintain smooth airport operations as well as protection of the environment.
  • Manage the response to water quality issues and determine corrective actions.
  • Prepare the water quality component of the Annual Environmental Report.
  • Prepare and administer budgets and oversee the commissioning and performance of contractors and consultants as necessary.
  • Present to internal and external committees as required, including chairing the Glycol Management Committee.
  • Respond to technical questions from senior management, the Board of Directors, tenants, contractors and other stakeholders related to water quality.


  • Post-Secondary Education in environmental science or equivalent related education.
  • Experience in environmental management with an emphasis on water management.
  • Experience conducting field work including water quality sampling and inspections of complex industrial facilities.
  • Proven ability to evaluate technical data for decision making purposes.
  • Ability to think creatively and innovatively.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills including ability to translate complex technical information into an understandable format for varying audiences.
  • Experience in the development of capital expenditure requests, budgets and scopes of work.
  • Knowledge of environmental management systems.
  • A genuine passion for sustainability.
  • Ability to secure an Airport Vehicle Operators Permit.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Restricted Area Identification Card (RAIC).


  • Preference will be given to candidates who have a minimum of 6 years’ experience in water management and monitoring programs.
  • Demonstrated multi-tasking, prioritization and organizational skills within in a high volume department.
  • Strong proficiency with MS Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) as well as database applications for storage, retrieval, analysis and presentation purposes.
  • Previous work experience in an airport environment will be considered an asset.
