The Addictions and Transition Specialist provides clinical interventions and support to youth at Grimmon House through individual and group addictions counseling, facilitates the transition process for clients and their caregiver(s), and is responsible for the primary care, safety and development of the children/ youth in the program. The Addictions and Transition Specialist will work with in a multi disciplinary team to develop individual client wellness plans and treatment goals using a trauma- informed perspective. The Addictions and Transitions Specialist will also ensure that the program and services provided are relevant to the needs of the residents and their caregiver, and that all residential components are effectively integrated with other BGCCS programs and are consistent with the mission, values, vision and business plan of agency. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Ensuring practice incorporates specialized approaches based on evidence supported models of addiction and recovery

Ensuring services provided adhere to Trauma Informed practice and are reflective of the developmental assets for fostering healthy development

Develop and implement specialized and individualized support services to families with children who are at risk of relapse. This emphasizes keeping families together in a safe, nurturing environment and providing them with skills that will last when they leave the program

Coaching family/ caregivers and staff on understanding the impact of addiction, the process of recovery, and the significance of the transition process and family re-unification

Providing service that promotes the development of attributes, “consistency, reliability, predictability, availability, honesty, and transparency” for the family/ caregiver

Providing guidance in repairing relationships and establishing comfortable connections between traumatized children and their caregivers

Providing coaching, strategies and support in learning new ways of self regulating, and managing emotions effectively (with in the transition setting)

Coaching of skill development as identified by the client, caregiver, and program therapist

Providing education and awareness on the importance of learning and practicing trauma informed approaches and assisting with skill development in this area

Ensuring that all specialized intervention techniques would be individualized and tailored to fit the individual needs of the transition plan and individuals/ family members involved

Certificate/Diploma/ Degree in a related Human Services Field. Addiction Specific education required

Experience working with adolescent girls who are at risk of involvement in sexual exploitation, addiction and street life.

Familiarity with clinical and therapeutic practices.

Experience planning and facilitating groups.

Knowledge in assessment and treatment delivery.

Crisis intervention and crisis management experience.

CPR and Standard First Aid

Preferred knowledge of trauma informed practice

Preferred knowledge of the family life cycle and families impacted by addiction

Suicide intervention

Valid Class 4 driver’s license, acceptable Driver’s Abstract and access to automobile

Criminal Record Check with vulnerable sector search and Intervention Record Check
