In this 1 year maternity leave coverage role, the Business Development Representative will continue to expand Terracon’s market position and drive financial growth within the resource and construction industries. This is a tremendous opportunity for an innovative and creative thinker, with the possibility of an extension at the end of the contract.

The Business Development Representative plays a crucial role in developing the pipeline for new business opportunities by using his or her extensive knowledge of related industries. The successful candidate must be able to quickly develop a rapport with new and existing clients, and provide exceptional support that will continually foster client relationships. He or she will work closely with the operation groups to support, initiate and participate in client meetings, leading and executing client proposals, and ensuring proper hand off to operations for project execution.

This vacancy is located in Calgary or Fort McMurray with occasional travel throughout Alberta, with the possibility of other locations within Western Canada.


  • Have an in depth understanding of Terracon’s strategic plan, vision and values in order to properly market the company’s services to companies that align with Terracon’s proven market advantage
  • Develop a close network of various client and vendor contacts within the industry
  • Promote Terracon’s brand awareness and services through active participation in industry groups and events
  • Promote Terracon’s brand awareness through traditional mediums and through an online presence
  • Initiate, develop and deliver business development presentations and materials
  • Weekly report on business development initiatives including meetings, proposal success and prospects
  • Initiate and lead Terracon’s efforts to qualify for industry awards and recognition
  • In depth client and competitor analysis to develop new opportunities
  • Drive market development strategy (size, segments, growth rate, cost structure, trends) increasing revenue by moving beyond the immediate client base, attracting new clients for existing services
  • Develop sales leads and prospects into opportunities
  • Pre-qualifying the business for future work
  • Accountable for meeting revenue and profit targets
  • Face to face client meetings to maintain business and seek new opportunities
  • Manage and prepare responses to client RFPs, estimates and scope of work documents with the assistance from the technical and operation teams
  • Responsible for client and project follow up including RFP loss debriefs
  • Maintain relationships with Aboriginal partners and joint ventures

Working Conditions

  • Travel to clients offices and client sites is required
  • Use of computer monitor, keyboard and mouse
  • Sitting for long periods at a desk as required
  • Standing/walking/stair climbing for intermittent periods


  • A minimum of 5 years’ in Business Development and/or sales experience, preferably in the professional services/oilfield services industries, in the Calgary, Fort McMurray and general Alberta area
  • Bachelor’s Degree or College Diploma in Business, Marketing, or a related field; an adequate combination of education and practical sales experience will be taken into consideration
  • An understanding of field service delivery in the resource and construction sectors in Alberta
  • Excellent time management skills and prioritizing ability
  • Excellent written (proposal and presentations) and verbal communication skills
  • Engaging interpersonal skills required
