As a member of the TELUS Transport Engineering – Strategic Projects team, this position will provide technical expertise and leadership on behalf of the team to logically build and design key facilities interconnecting Canada and internationally to deliver on the TELUS National growth strategic programs.

Responsible to support workload management by ensuring dates are managed and met for capital projects

Responsible for managing and distributing of high quality facility orders

Responsible for the core transport logical build, test and turn-up of large bandwidth designs

Follows technical standards, procedures and practices, to support TELUS services

Develop schedules, identify resource requirements and development of business cases for implementation

Develops innovative solutions to resolve complex technical issues or business issues

Define project specific scope as it relates to facilities design and analyze software provisioning options

Participate in process improvement and cost reduction initiatives

Training development and technical support for team members, and involvement in first office applications, ensuring high team productivity

SME for peer and partner teams including support to operations on network outages

Excellent communication skills both verbally and in technical writings, internally to TELUS and with vendors

Track monthly key performance indicators and meet monthly objectives


Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
A solid understanding of CWDM/DWDM, OCN Networks i.e

OC3/OC12/OC48/OC192/OC768 (Ciena, OTN and Fujitsu)

Routers, Edge Devices

Next Generation ICB’s (AMF)

Digital cross connects (Titan, Alcatel)

BITS (building integrated timing supply)

Fiber management cross-connects

Fiber and copper OSP

Knowledge of Circuit Vision – assignable inventory management system and circuit design

Knowledge of Netcracker – physical asset inventory

Strong keyboard and computer skills (Excel, Word, MS Project, MS Access, Visio)

Innovation and creativity is required to complete unusual or vaguely defined tasks and assist in developing new practices and procedures

Ability to provide technical and process guidance to others

Exceptional organizational skills with ability to meet ever changing priorities

Required Professional Designation/Certification:
Bachelor Degree in Engineering or equivalent (e.g. Engineering, Business, Science preferred); or technical diploma with significant hands-on technology operational experience

APEGGA and/or ASET membership

Required Experience:
Minimum of 3 years of experience in national transport infrastructure, including SONET, DMDW, Carrier Ethernet, WAN and virtual ring design and its interconnection to wireless, access and data/IP networks

Minimum of 5 years of experience in the telecommunications industry

Experience with TELUS national transport infrastructure, rings and IP architecture and it’s interconnection to wireless, access and data networks is an asset

Additional training and education in the areas of business analysis is an asset

SAP experience would be an asset
