Tandoori Junction Indian Cuisine is a fine dining Indian restaurant located in the heart of downtown Nanaimo, BC. We serve traditional dishes from all regions of India, while maintaining high standards
and the quality of the food being served. At Tandoori Junction, we are looking for a great cook who can be an asset in our growing business.
Position Details:
Our chef’s main responsibility is to direct the preparation, seasoning and cooking of all food items; to supervise, train and observe cooks and kitchen workers; and to inspect supplies, equipment and work areas for health and safety and general quality compliance. Our chef is mainly responsible for doing whatever it takes for the kitchen to produce the highest quality of food and service to the customers as they have come to expect the chef is the guardian of our restaurant’s reputation and thus, our prosperity.
Job Duties
Produce and/or ensure production of the highest quality foods to guests
Ensure that the kitchen is in sufficient condition that it will pass a health inspection at any and all times
Collaborate with other kitchen and managerial personnel to create, plan, develop, and/or improve menu items
Supervise, schedule and coordinate activities of cooks and other kitchen helpers
Weigh, measure and mix ingredients/seasoning to be used throughout the day in order to guarantee taste profile stability
Butcher, cut and bone ingredients for quality and to minimize waste
Prepare (bake, roast, broil, etc.) or instruct/oversee preparation of food items that need to be cook in advance for use throughout the day
Inspect food preparation and serving areas to ensure observance of safe, sanitary food handling practices.
Proficient in the use and tutelage of all kitchen equipment including fryers, ovens, grills etc.
Observe and test foods to determine if they have been cooked sufficiently, using methods such as tasting, smelling, or piercing them with utensils
Review inventory records and requisition supplies accordingly
Inspect work areas and equipment to ensure proper procedures are being followed
Train, instruct and/or correct cooks and other kitchen workers on the proper food preparation and storage procedures

Specific Hiring Criteria:
Team oriented with the ability to act in the best interest of the restaurant
At least 4 years’ experience as an ethnic chef with proven leadership ability
Proven expertise with a range of Indian spices
Proven ability to adapt and consistently produce established menu flavours
Proven experience of above job duties
Exceptional organizational and inventory control skills
Ability to understand Hindi/Punjabi is a definite bonus
Actual salary is dependent on experience

Rate of Pay: 18.85 per hour (plus 4% vacation pay per pay period)
Work Week: 40 hours
Overtime: As per provincial standards 1.5 times hourly rate
