Reporting to the COO / Site Manager, the Legal Advisor will be responsible for submitting proactive legal advice on various issues such as commercial contracts, intellectual property and corporate governance matters. The incumbent will provide legal advice to its internal departments and management, in particular, the legal obligations and operations of the company while minimizing commercial risk and contractual exposure.
Develop and recommend operating policy and procedure improvements; May work with members of management on specific projects; Assist the company with issues of compliance and various legal requirements; Take decisive actions on various legal matters and assess contentious and controversial issues; Assist, when required, in contractual disputes to assure that claims and disputes are handled in a manner to achieve the optimum commercial advantage for the company with minimum risk exposure; Advise and ensure compliance with day to day business in accordance with the appropriate case law, legislation and regulatory matters affecting a company; Develop and maintain standard contract templates; Provide legal advice on actual or potential anticipated lawsuits; Represent the company or its officials in various legal proceedings; All other related tasks.
Bachelor in Law / Member of the Barreau du Quebec; Minimum 8 years of experience as a Legal Advisor preferably in a corporate environment; Perfectly bilingual, both oral and written (French / English); Ability to grasp complex areas of law rapidly; Ability to communicate effectively with senior management and clients; Exhibit sound practical judgment; Ability to work as a member of a multi-disciplinary team; Analytical, methodical and proactive approach to problem solving; Ability to manage priorities and organize work effectively to meet deadlines; Ability to identify key issues and present advise and decisions in a precise and comprehensive manner; Experience in drafting various contracts and negotiation; Experience with intellectual property management; Flexible in working hours; Available to occasionally travel.
