Our client, an Alberta refining company, is looking for a Field Planner / Scheduler to join their team on a long-term contract basis in Edmonton, Alberta.

Responsibilities:
Actively lead, assume responsibility and participate in the management team meetings of the project, relating to project planning and scheduling issues during the development phases

Conduct Planning Workshops to involve and get buy in from all the key players in the project regarding Planning/Scheduling issues and assumptions

Provide input into the development of detailed schedules for regulatory, engineering, procurement, fabrication, modularization, construction, and commissioning and start-up activities

Ensure the project planning and scheduling team supplies all preparatory input, systems, procedures, and resources necessary to support the incorporation of essential project work into the execution schedule in an efficient, well timed and cost effective manner

Cooperate with all affiliated parties, utilizing risk assessment and decision analysis techniques on all potential opportunities, ensuring that only the most appropriate options are selected throughout the duration of the project

Coordinate and support Schedule Risk Reviews

Direct less experienced planners and schedulers in the execution of their duties

Use computer aided project planning tools to advantage in achieving the necessary degree of detail to meet all established or future standards

Recommends improvements to all company project “control” systems, procedures and practices as opportunities occur

Employ various company approved software programs and networks to interface and communicate with all area personnel

Coordinate with Engineering, Construction and Operations to identify project schedule disconnects for rectification

Ensure scheduling database, files and records are kept up to date

Ensure use of same standards, reporting formats, procedures and codes are followed across projects as much as possible to reduce rework on the same

Ensure integration of processes and systems with other Project Controls function including change management, cash flow development, work face planning, forecasting, P&P reporting and variance analysis

Maintain a high level of technical expertise through continuing education programs and participation in cost and schedule related professional activities

Provide technical training and guidance to project personnel (all, not just project controls) on planning and scheduling subjects

Support Supply Chain Management in resolution of contract claims or disputes, including support of any forensic schedule analysis for potential use in legal proceedings

Requirements:
10+ years progressive experience in heavy industrial environments

Strong commissioning and pre-commissioning experience

Extensive field experience

Preference for experience on refineries or upgraders

Knowledge of operations, project and engineering planning and scheduling processes and systems

Proficiency in the set up, administration and use of Primavera as an enterprise system and integrating this system with multiple contractors and other company systems

Proficiency in the use of computer programs, word processing, databases, Excel, PowerPoint and the internet to the intermediate/advanced level (capable of using a large number of functions and feels confident using the programs)

Ability to meet deadlines while maintaining attention to detail and data accuracy

Strong time management skills coupled with the ability to work independently and in an organized manner is considered an asset

Builds effective interpersonal relationships in addition to creating a positive and productive team-oriented environment with vendors and engineering contractors

Demonstrates good judgment in problem solving and timely decision-making

Must utilize superior communication skills, and maintain a professional approach to dealing with company Team Members, vendors and engineering contractors

Must be a team player: willing to continuously and proactively collaborate, share, and seek information and guidance

Must have strong investigative skills and an ability to ask questions to draw out required information

Must utilize excellent communication and interpersonal skills to ensure The project builds and retains an culture of open sharing of both positive and negative information
