The Students on Ice Foundation is looking for a Communications Team Lead to build and execute an inspiring national campaign for Canada C3 (Coast to Coast to Coast), a Canada 150 Signature Initiative.

Canada C3 will take Canadians from coast to coast to coast on an epic 150-day ship-based expedition from Toronto to Victoria via the Northwest Passage, showcasing Canada’s peoples and places along Canada’s three coasts.

With 150 remarkable Canadians on board as the eyes and ears for the rest of the country, Canada C3 will be a catalytic, celebratory and transformative journey for all Canadians. A journey that will spark and captivate our imagination and lead to a greater awareness and deeper understanding of our country, its vastness, beauty, and the enormity of opportunities ahead of us. Canada C3 will instill a lasting sense of pride and inspire the next generation of Canadians to make their contributions to Canada’s long list of great achievements.

Canada C3, a Canada 150 Signature Initiative, is funded by the Government of Canada, led by the Students on Ice Foundation and executed in collaboration with a team of strong, national partners.

Job Description

As the Canada C3 Communications Team Lead it is your job to engage over 20 million Canadians and to capture their imagination with Canada’s beauty, diversity and opportunities.

To achieve this, you will build an outstanding Communications team. You will provide hands-on leadership to the development and execution of Canada C3’s national media and communications campaign before, during and after the expedition. You will lead the creation of Canada C3’s innovative online presence and engaging media and communications materials. You will generate frequent local, regional and national media attention driven by expedition locations, participants and events. You will ensure a consistently engaging web and social media presence. In collaboration with Canada C3’s partners you will leverage their media and communications teams and networks and ensure delivery on their communications commitments to the project.

Required Qualifications

  • A minimum of 10+ years of progressive experience in the field of media, communications, public relations and/or marketing, including at least 5 years in a senior management role;
  • Strong and proven track record in the design and execution of successful national media and communications campaigns;
  • Strong creative, strategic, analytical, organizational and personal sales skills;
  • Strong, current, national media network;
  • Passion for story-telling;
  • Bilingual (FR/Eng);
  • Experience in managing the development of digital platforms and websites;
  • Experience developing and managing budgets;
  • Experience in hiring, training, developing, supervising and appraising personnel;
  • Experience overseeing the design and production of print materials and publications.
  • Strong oral and written communications skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects at a time.
