The Early Years Navigator provides a blended service continuum of supports, resources, programs and community engagement activities to young children, their parents (including parents to be), caregivers, community, and service providers. These services include, but are not limited to: information, supported referral and navigation through complex systems and processes, early learning and care, family support, skill development, screening, and assessment.

Responsibilities

  • Design and facilitate environments for learning and exploration by children, youth and adults in a number of settings
  • Apply a variety of formal and informal screens and assessment tools to support the health and wellbeing of participants
  • Provide skill building and knowledge transfer opportunities for parents, caregivers, early childhood professionals and community members
  • Provide information, supported referral and navigation through complex systems and processes
  • Provide a range of preventative and early intervention family support programs and services
  • Adhere to standards of practice in documentation, case management, ethics and use of supervision
  • Co-create collaborative community relationships and networks to support optimal developmental outcomes for young children and families
  • Apply principles of implementation science and developmental evaluation to inform provision of service

Skills and Abilities

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with others in a manner that facilitates decision making and collaboration
  • Ability to develop collaborative relationships with parents, caregivers, colleagues, community stakeholders and service providers
  • Familiarity with standards and guidelines for Home Visitation, Parent Link, Family Day Home
  • Knowledge of risk assessments, developmentally appropriate practice, mental health, parental scales, developmental screening tools
  • Well versed in brain science, normative child development, adverse early childhood experiences (ACES), ecological perspectives and importance of play in growth and development
  • Extensive knowledge about child development and parenting strategies
  • Ability to listen and convey messages in a manner that contributes to clarity and shared understanding
  • Broad based knowledge of community resources and experience assisting with supported referral and navigation through complex systems and processes

Qualifications

  • A degree in Social Science, Early Childhood or related discipline with three years of experience working with young children, parents, caregivers and community; or a diploma plus five years of experience
  • Education in fields with registration and/or membership in accredited professional organizations is preferred
  • Accreditation in facilitating Triple P parenting program
  • Core home visitation training as well as risk assessment, crisis intervention, suicide awareness and prevention techniques and safety planning
  • WRAP training is an asset
  • Conditions of employment:
    • Submission of satisfactory Criminal Record Check and Child Intervention Screen
    • Valid Alberta Class 5 driver’s license, with drivers abstract

The annual salary range for this permanent full-time position is $64,865 to $81,081, working 35 hours per week.
