Job Description

Derivatives Services is a centralized unit supporting Derivatives transaction processing and valuations for various departments. The Derivatives Administrator is responsible for derivative transaction processing and ensuring the accuracy of the daily valuation for a broad range of complex asset types across various clients. Accuracy, timeliness, organization and maintenance of documentation are important to this position.


  • Process and record derivative trade instructions using State Street’s proprietary systems
  • Calculate, reconcile, and approve daily margin valuations on futures
  • Calculate derivative values leveraging external pricing vendors and client specific pricing formulae
  • Track swap reset dates, accruals, and corporate events in order to affect accurate valuations. Escalate issues to senior members of the team and/or clients as required.
  • Process cash and security movements related to collateral, fees, margin, resets, and settlements
  • Resolve failed trades, unadvised credits, & non receipts related to derivative transactions
  • Adhere to, promote, and educate others on the use of department procedures
  • Perform portfolio holdings, income and market value reconciliations
  • Function as a “team-player”. Work with peers to achieve group/client/unit goals.
  • Continuously expand and improve knowledge of financial instruments, corporate actions, and best valuation practices.
  • Maintain proper documentation and back-up for audit purposes
  • Participate in and contribute to unit project initiatives
  • Provide outstanding client service to both internal and external clients


  • College or university designation preferably with a concentration in finance/business/accounting or equivalent work experience
  • Experience in securities pricing, fund accounting, or custody operations / securities administration is an asset
  • Knowledge of capital markets and complex securities is an asset
  • Demonstrate the ability to analyze a problem, obtain and evaluate information and reach sound conclusions
  • Must demonstrate the ability to work as a team player
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proficient in spreadsheet and database applications such as EXCEL and ACCESS
  • Solid administration, organizational and time management skills
  • Completion of the Canadian Securities Course and/or Derivatives Fundamentals Course is preferred
  • Knowledge of Bloomberg and/or Reuters terminals an asset
