The Co-Existing with Coyotes Coordinator leads environmental education programming; the majority of this programming is for the Co-Existing with Coyotes program. The position involves planning, developing, and creatively delivering ongoing education programs and written materials. The primary audiences are schools, community organizations, the public and the media.

Specific Tasks of the Job:

o Respond to daily calls and emails on Coyote Info Hotline and Emails

o Coordinate volunteers to support monitoring of the Coyote Info Hotline

o Deliver coyote community outreach programming at schools, special events, etc

o Draft media release and respond to media inquiries relating to local coyote issues

o Evaluate coyote sighting patterns and inform schools, daycares and other organizations in relevant areas

o Communicate with Ministry of Environment and Vancouver Park Board about areas where individual coyotes are displaying aggressive or habituated behaviour

o Maintain databases and populate reports as required for Stanley Park Ecology Society (SPES) Board, staff, and funders

o Create and distribute coyote information brochures, posters and signs

Required Knowledge, Abilities and Skills

o Confidence and competence in presenting at public venues and for the media

o Successfully work with a diversity of governments and community groups

o Design and deliver educational programs to capture the attention and imagination of children and adults

o Work effectively and tactfully in dealing with urban wildlife related conflicts presented by the public

o Working knowledge of relevant urban wildlife organizations and issues

o Working knowledge and appreciation of environmental issues and specifically urban wildlife

o Strong interpersonal, communication and leadership skills

o Ability to organize and manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines and creatively solve problems

Required Training and Experience

o Minimum Diploma or Degree in a related field or 2-year experience in a position of similar project coordination responsibilities with activities that involved wildlife issues and public education

o Excellent written communication and oral presentation skills

o Computer Skills: Word, PowerPoint, Excel, databases

o A valid Driver’s License is required and access to a vehicle is an asset

o Level 1 first aid is an asset

Job Type: Contract

Salary: $18.00 to $20.00 /hour
