Position: Copy-Editor and Publication Assistant

Location: This is a part-time position that requires someone who is set-up to work remotely with their own computer and with internet access

Speech-Language and Audiology Canada (SAC) is seeking a dynamic individual to join the editorial team of the Canadian Journal of Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology Canada .

ABOUT THE POSITION

The Copy Editor & Publication Assistant takes a lead role in copy-editing the English manuscripts published in the journal; ensuring correct spelling, grammar, punctuation and style. The Copy Editor &* *Publication Assistant also assists the Editor-in-Chief in the administration and production of the Canadian Journal of Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology (CJSLPA).

ABOUT THE JOURNAL

The Canadian Journal of Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology (CJSLPA) is a peer-reviewed, online journal of clinical practice for audiologists, speech-language pathologists and researchers. The journal is published by Speech-Language and Audiology Canada (SAC). www.cjslpa.ca

Key Responsibilities

Copy Editor

• Ensure that all manuscripts published in the journal are free from spelling, grammar and punctuation errors
• Verify that all graphs, illustrations and captions in the manuscripts are accurate
• Raise queries and collaborates with the authors, reviewers and Editor-in-Chief as appropriate
• Ensures that all manuscripts are formatted in the APA style
• Verify that all references are correct and are formatted appropriately

Administration of the Journal

• Through the PowerReview system, track incoming manuscripts and monitor progress from receipt through to review and final publication
• Ensure reviewers, assistant editors, authors and the Editor-in-Chief are meeting established timelines
• Provide other administrative support, as required

• Superior written communication skills
• Thorough knowledge of APA style
• Excellent attention to detail
• Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines
• Sound problem-solving skills
• Ability to work with tact and diplomacy when communicating with authors and the editorial team
• Professional copy-editing experience is an asset
• Knowledge of healthcare and education research and/or terminology is an asset
• Bilingualism (English/French) is an asset

Education and Experience

This position is ideal for post-graduate students studying journalism, English, communications, or a related field. The ideal candidate is someone who is self-motivated, who has superior written communication skills and who has a willingness to learn. Previous science copy-editing experience is an asset.

Working Specifications

• The work within the scope of this position requires an individual with a flexible work schedule
• This is a part-time position that requires someone who is set-up to work remotely with their own computer and with internet access
• The Copy Editor & Publication Assistant can be expected to work approximately 15-20 hours per month
• The Copy Editor & Publication Assistant must bill Speech-Language and Audiology monthly for the hours worked
