Learning Specialist – Learning & Development

Located in the heart of downtown Calgary, AB, and reporting to the Director, Learning & Development, this position has the unique opportunity to be a pivotal ambassador for Solium. This person will be the face and heart of our corporate onboarding. They will also be responsible for facilitating, designing and developing training materials that have a global reach both internally and externally. As part of the Learning and Development department, this person will have the opportunity to build and foster employee engagement. This team is part of the greater HR team, and works closely with both our product and operational teams.

Responsibilities

Delivery

  • Coordinate, deliver and continuously enhance Solium’s Global Corporate Onboarding Program (may be face-to-face or virtual).
  • Live/Embody/Represent the Solium Culture through everyday interactions, being a Global Ambassador.
  • Motivate new employees to become engaged with the organization and help set them up for success through organizing and delivering the training of internal tools.
  • Work with the business to coordinate and deliver monthly internal training sessions, i.e. lunch and learns.
  • Improve employee participant skill/performance through observation, feedback and coaching, thus enabling employees to become great facilitators

Design

  • Independently and collaboratively design and develop entry- and advanced-level course content for both internal and external audiences under tight deadlines.
  • Utilize a blended learning methodology and a variety of multimedia technology and authoring tools, with an emphasis on promoting interactivity and/or gamification as appropriate.
  • Conducting effective needs analysis, project management, influencing, course development, and evaluation conversations with a variety of audiences.
  • Effectively liaise between content experts to gather, create, validate, update and retire content on an iterative basis and under tight timelines.
  • Show teams what can be created and inspire them to share their knowledge to the organization
  • Plan and conduct information-gathering activities with subject matter experts (interviews, stakeholder sessions, engagement events, etc.) to collect information required to produce appropriate documentation.
  • Interest or passion in Human Centred Design, information Design, Design Thinking or Experience Design is an asset

Support

  • Support the greater HR team with ongoing initiatives and ad hoc projects.
  • Manage the Learning Management System (LMS), including events, reporting, account creations, and troubleshooting.
  • Support the implementation of training through interaction with team members and customers.

Qualifications

  • Proven success with instructional design across various applications and technologies, including multimedia, curriculum and course development skills.
  • Proven communication and facilitation skills to communicate effectively with technical subject matter experts in determining business needs.
  • Comfortable in a fast-paced and evolving environment that includes ongoing learning and training opportunities.
  • Proven ability to make appropriate decisions and deliver results under tight timelines and in ambiguous circumstances.
  • Degree, diploma or equivalent training (completed or in progress) in a related discipline (Curriculum Development, Instructional Design, Creative Writing, Journalism or similar) is preferred.
  • Related professional certification or designation(s) is an asset.
  • Strong attention-to-detail and problem solving skills.
  • Proficiency using a variety of software platforms for curriculum and course development, such as Articulate Storyline or Captivate
  • High level of comfort with learning complex technical concepts through a variety of approaches, including classroom sessions, eLearning, self-directed learning and hands-on experience.
