Working in the building maintenance group the candidate will maintain, repair and monitor all facility stationary engines and equipment such as steam engines, boilers, air compressors, generators, turbines and refrigeration equipment systems and components.

Work may include preventative and corrective maintenance on stationary engines and equipment components of facility; planning and layout, installation and repairs. Recording of data (temperature, hours of operation, fuel consumption, water levels, etc.), reading dials, gauges and manuals. Adjustment of manual controls or overrides of automatic controls to start or shut down equipment. Conducting safety tests and periodically inspecting, repairing, adjusting and lubricating. Recording and reporting actions taken and feeding chemicals and caustics into systems and devices. Observing the results of water titration tests.

Investigation and troubleshooting of existing systems is required including the ability to evaluate problems and recommend solutions to issues as well as recommendations to improve operational efficiency

You Will be Responsible to:

  • Delegate and direct the activities of outside contractors including setting task priorities, quality control checks of completed tasks, handling emergency requests and certifying contractor invoices.
  • Provide administrative duties by keeping current records of preventative maintenance tasks completed, updating the preventative maintenance program as required, ensuring the availability of materials by checking stock levels of parts and components and preparing requisitions.
  • Act as primary on-site contact person for stationary engines and equipment systems maintenance.
  • Work with hand tools, power tools and have the physical ability to perform labor intensive duties including lifting up to 50 lbs. safely, and the ability to climb stairs and ladders as part of daily activities.


  • 5+ years experience with stationary engines and equipment systems in commercial buildings, industrial and/or manufacturing environments.
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Must hold power engineer/stationary engineer certification in the province of employment. Level of certification is dependent upon the specific mechanical plant and provincial requirements.
  • Must have working knowledge of applicable local and national legislation, codes and standards which may include, but is not necessarily limited to: National Building Code, Canadian Electrical Code, National Plumbing Code, National Fire Code, NFPA, ASHRAE Standards, etc.
  • Experience with ISO9001 requirements.
  • Bilingual in English and French is an asset (Required in Montreal)


  • Self-starter organized and have the ability to identify and recommend solutions to his/her supervisor.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal direction and as part of a larger team.
  • Willingness to work overtime and to participate in the after-hours on call rotation to ensure continuous operation of the facilities.
  • Willingness to adhere to all safety standards and to complete tasks safely at all times.
  • Ability to obtain all necessary security clearances as required.
