Under the direction of the Operations Manager, Fort Hills, the Manager, Projects (AHS) is responsible and accountable for promoting, leading, developing, and managing Autonomous Haulage Systems (AHS) deployment, support, and continuous improvement. Working closely with branch operations and the Corporate Manager, Projects (AHS), the incumbent is responsible for the full program development and implementation. Working with the Operations Manager, Fort Hills, the Manager, Projects (AHS) is responsible for the administration of contractual obligations set out through Joint Work Plans with the customer and the OEM Representatives. The Manager, Projects (AHS) is also responsible for ensuring site activities support the safe and efficient delivery of work.

Immediate duties include the support of the 63N AHS test project, conducted at the Suncor Base mine. Further details are:
(1) Assisting with the commissioning, tracking and support of the new trucks delivered to Fort Hills (500hrs Test);
(2) Technical Support to assist with the development and implementation the AHS technology at the 63N branch;
(3) Gaining experience and knowledge obtained during these testing periods with intent to assist with the Fort Hills AHS implementation occurring thereafter.

This is a challenging role for a seasoned manager and leader with a strong technical background, solid understanding of wireless communications, computer networks, control systems, contracts management, and Oil Sands experience, but who also has a huge appetite for new technologies, change management, and challenging the status quo.

Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Responsible for leading all activities related to the full implementation, adoption and integration of the Autonomous Haulage Systems at the Fort Hills site
Works closely with the OEM and the customer to develop strategic training and deployment programs of SMS resources while constantly looking for efficiency gains and opportunities to enhance SMS onsite support
Establishing relationships with other mine sites across the world in order to actively seek out and share best practices
Supervises and leads a team of AHS experts, consisting of people employed by SMS Equipment, Modular Mining Systems, Komatsu America, and Komatsu Ltd.
Coordinates the utilization of all necessary and/or available resources in the investigation, analysis, and reporting of significant product deficiencies by obtaining product deficiency information from testing and operations
Assists with the establishment of Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) required to effectively manage and report the performance of the AHT’s and monitors on a regular basis
Collaborate with the customer to ensure policy adherence and safe operations while assisting the customer to reach their internal KPI’s and Performance goals
Other duties as assigned

The successful candidate will have an equivalent to completion of an undergraduate degree in engineering or a related technical field and a minimum of 3-5 years’ experience within the mining/industrial industry with a strong technical background. This position requires a sound understanding of leadership, management of operations, mining industry & maintenance practices, as well as knowledge of equipment and parts distribution. The ability to manage in a diverse environment with focus on client and customer service and entrepreneurship is essential to success in this role. Other qualifications include but are not limited to:

Knowledge in wireless communications platforms, control systems and network architecture
Ability to set objectives which are realistic but aggressive
Ability to learn new technologies and apply best practices and solutions to new problems when dealing with issues in uncharted territory
Demonstrates strength and competence in impacting and influencing resources and outcomes
Ability to evaluate alternatives and assess advantages and risks in make decisions which are timely, decisive, and effective
