Shift Auto Group is one of Atlantic Canada’s Fastest Growing automotive companies. Only 3 years old, Shift Auto Group has grown from one location and 12 staff to four locations with nearly 70 staff and annual sales of $60,000,000. Shift Auto Group consists of Fredericton Mitsubishi, Volvo Cars New Brunswick, Velocity Auto Body and ReCar.

Due to this fast growth and extensive planned future growth, Shift Auto Group has an immediate opening for Chief Financial Officer (CFO).

Reporting directly to Company President Dave O’Leary, the CFO will be part of the core leadership group that will see Shift Auto Group continue to be the fastest growing auto group in Atlantic Canada.

Role Overview

We are a growing automotive organization and need a Chief Financial Officer to manage, account for and maximize every dollar that we as an organization touch, as well as ensure that all of those monies are being put to the best possible use.

Responsibilities

  • Management of all accounting and administration departments for all our business units. This includes working with our individual Business Unit Office Managers to ensure the accurate and timely management of:
    • Vehicle Transactions
    • Parts Transactions
    • Service Transactions
    • Receivables
    • Payables
    • Staffing / Payroll
    • Other Administrative duties
  • Proper, accurate and timely financial reporting for all our business units. This includes not only timely and accurate internal monthly financial reporting, but also accurate and timely reporting to our banking and manufacturer partners as required. And this isn’t just reporting … an in-depth analysis with a constant focus on areas of concern, or opportunity, are also very important.
  • Lending Management. Work with lender(s) to assist in securing lines of credit, mortgages and other sources of financing required by the business. It also includes working within those arrangements to maximize its effectiveness.
  • Cash Flow Management. We handle millions of dollars per year and the effective management of this cash flow, as well as regular cash flow reporting to ownership, is a vital part of the role of the CFO.
  • Financial forecasting and modeling. Although to date this has not been a big part of our business model, we will require multiyear forecasting and modeling as we continue to grow.
  • Reviewing any and all potential acquisitions to assist ownership in making decisions on new opportunities and markets. We are currently faced with many opportunities every year and all of those opportunities are currently assed solely by ownership. Moving forward, the CFO will be intimately involved in these decisions.
  • Working with our third-party accounting partner to complete timely and accurate year-end financials.
  • Inventory control measures that include accurate regular inventory auditing and monitoring of both vehicle and parts inventories.
  • Working with other stakeholders, from invested managing partners to department managers, to ensure they understand any and all relevant financial information available to them.
  • Working with all others in the management team to ensure the overall company operates at the highest possible level of efficiency and profitability.
  • Expense control. Constant reviewing all expenses incurred by the company and review of these expenses to ensure that all are minimized and limited to only the highest ROI possible.
  • Create, improve and maintain strong internal controls while ensuring the safeguarding of all company processes.
  • Adaptable and able to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment with minimal supervision.

Qualifications

  • Must have professional accounting designation (CPA).
  • Must have minimum 5 years of experience as Controller, CFO or Senior Accounting role.
  • Strong experience navigating an entrepreneurial work environment.
  • Ability to learn new software rapidly.
  • Automotive retail experience would be a huge asset.
